Sienna Miller is NO Tippi Hedren

Sienna Miller was completely miscast. She looked too angular, tan and old to play the gorgeously feminine Tippi. There is nothing the least bit sexually appealing about the anorexic Miller. First she bastardizes Edie Sedgewick & now Tippi. This 'performance' sucked.

Tippi Hedren wasn't even a great beauty to begin with. She had a long, skinny face and trivial looking features. I like icy blondes as much as the next person, but Tippi was little more than a KMart version of Grace Kelly.

Sienna Miller is definitely prettier, despite the visible sun damage. Superior thespian, too.

I never said Tippi was a great beauty. But Sienna Miller is completely unattractive and completely uninteresting to me. And at best a mediocre actress. Tippi was not a real actress either but she can at least sustain more interest on film. The only thing captivating about Miller is her name. Not my idea of a woman.

Tippi Hedren was gorgeous, but Sienna Miller was not pretty enought to play her.

"Sienna Miller is completely unattractive"

Boy I'd like to know what world you live in.

Nailed it. With nails.

I don't have anything against Miller, but every single film I've seen her in she's been fairly awful in. She always looks like she's trying too hard. And in this film she does an usual amount of smiling and head moving. Also the fact she looked like Kate from Lost was kind of distracting too.

Don't try to cash in love, that check will always bounce.

I am not talking about 'pretty' whatever that even means.

STFU you moron. Been working in the Industry for 40 yrs. I wouldn't know Miller if she stood in front of me. There is absolutley nothing whatsoever distinctrive about her. She looks like a thousand other anorexic overly tanned women. Hedren was distinctive and unforgettable. And by the way both Hedren and Miller were 31/32 when they shot their subsequent movies, Hedren looks like a disctinctive type of woman. MILLER'S Hedren looks like an overly tanned anorexic and posessess none of Melanies mystery or intrigue. I had no idea what Miller was trying to achieve in The Girl, she sort of played the character, was sort of attractive and sort of drew your attention...sort of does not make a film unforgettable. And while on the subj, she didn't come close to depicting Edie Sedgewich either.

looking good doesn't mean jack *beep* Being Real and believable is what the CHARACTER CALLED FOR AND she just phoned it in. = Yawn.

Sienna Miller does look a bit more worn than Hedren in her two Hitchcock films, but I think this is primarily because the whole style of cinematography, film stock, complicated lighting, and elaborate makeup between then and now is different. (For instance, the old pancake style makeup foundations were matte and quite thick...it actually cracked as the day wore on and the face moved. Miller's makeup foundation, in contrast, is much more sheer and moist, offering a less opaque coverage.)

The actual Hedren photography from the era is flat and velvety, while the HBO photography has much more natural definition (ie, is more "realistic.)

cookie, that is an asutute observation and analysis of filmstock, lighting & makeup of then vs now. I tip my hat. I am old school and a fan of the old in acting style as well. xo lg

Agreed on her being miscast physically but was also surprised that she didn't try to sound like Tippi vocally, Tippi has/had an airy and sexy way of speaking and Sienna didn't even attempt to duplicate it at all.
It's even more noticeable considering how hard Toby Jones tried to become the Hitchcock character.

Toby Jones is chillingly fantastic! I felt so awful for him that he wasn't even given a decent co-star to

Not even 5 minutes passed, I felt like reaching in there, grabbing Miller by thee hair, and literally throwing her out of the movie (and preferably out of a window). How this bimbo keeps getting work is beyond me. Not particularly attractive, intelligent, interesting, and a GROSSLY incompetent "actress" (even that description is too kind for her).

I was reluctant to watch this film anyway b/c I prefer documentaries for real life incidences. I REALLY wish a documentary was made instead of a TV film.

With her hair up and in '50s makeup and clothes, Sienna Miller actually looks more like Kim Novak than Tippi Hedren.

That keeps throwing me.

reply

Kim & Tippi were curvy, beautiful woman. Sienna is too angular and tanned.

reply

Tippi Hedren was built like a scarecrow, and had average features.

Sienna Miller is equally average.

No big deal.

Another vote against Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren. She seems almost horsy in comparison to to Ms. Hedren.

reply

Tippi was no great beauty to begin with but Sienna Miller is a great actress and had a great American accent in the movie. She's also very beautiful. I think she was miscast in the sense that she doesn't look like Tippi but I loved her performance.

WHAT performance? She didn'T DO anything. I have yet to see Miller show any nuance of anything other than hitting her mark and cashing her paycheck.

reply

Okay well that's your opinion. I think she's great.

I didn't buy Sienna in this role, either.

However, I really did like her as Edie S.

Have to agree Miller was miscast. She looks nothing like Hedren, but thats not always important,Toby Jones looks nothing like Hitchcock either. I don't mean to be unkind but she is just not attractive enough (does she have some kind of skin condition ?),and sadly that really does matter if the film is about Hitch's sexual obssesion.Worst of all,her performence is seriously under-par.Again,someone playing the object of a great artist's passion ought to ooze charisma, but Miller has absolutley none.

The major problem,as with so many actresses of her generation who have made the jump from modeling, she seems not to understand that women in the past behaved differently, spoke differently and carried themselves differently, than those of today. Most modern actresses who have had little training tend to have only one trick in their acting locker and that is to play every character as "feisty",or some might say rude and aggressive. That just does not cut it when playing a lady in the past, even the relatively recent past.
