Some Questions [Beware: SPOILERS]

[Beware, again... SPOILERS]

It was quite a good movie, for one watch, certainly.
I have some Questions or Issues about the movie...

1. Why did the breathers i.e. the soldiers constantly make noises like Animals? I did do gas masks and used radio... but those aren't supposed to make those kind of noises. (Ref: When the mom was struggling to keep the hatch intact).
2. Aren't the soldiers supposed to be always on their Comms and sometimes ordering each other shouting? (other than using military sign language). It's not that that they weren't making lots noises around above the shelter, compromised all their presence, so...why stop talking then?
3. Why didn't they just hold the string of that doll Olive, to stop it to talk? They had more than enough time...
4. If they already knew, they were being hunted by the soldiers ordered by the authority, what's the point of calling the "Breathers" instead of military or soldiers? Just to create the suspense and make the way for that twist? That can't be a reason.... And what's with the name "Breathers", the others are "Non-Breathers" or something?
5. If extreme emotions like Anger, Fear, Death risks do trigger their transformation, why didn't they transform earlier when they were in shelter already...? There were already plenty of those emotions in extreme, even when they were inside that shelter.
6. Since when such a fast-spreading "Airborne" Virus can be contained by quarantining the lands of a city? or did it happen worldwide? We even saw scavengers like Crows around... Any hint anywhere that I probably missed?

Had a few more, but these should do for now... :)

The movie was for me ok until the last part when the plot twists happened, though about halfway through when they still hadn't shown any "infected" it was clear that the plot would develop along those lines. I did not like the movie, but I will try to answer your questions fairly.

1. The "breathers" constantly made noises like animals because the writers wanted the audience to believe they were some form of infected/zombie=like creature. Of course soldiers wouldn't sound like animals and would be communicating. The plot demands that you believe one scenario before it changes it later on, so this is really a form of cheating. If you wanted to defend the animal-like sounds you could say it was distortion caused by the breathing apparatus.

2. Of course they would. For the rest see #1.

3. It was obvious that to keep the doll quiet one only had to hold the string taut. several people have asked about this already. It creates a plot problem but was probably done to heighten tension. You could say that maybe the string was only caught for a couple seconds and that the camera lingered to indicate each person becoming aware of the problem. Nevertheless the speaking device went on much longer and much crazier than an actual one would upon being smashed, again, another plot device.

4.Since they had retained their full intelligence and memories, there was no reason to call them "breathers". Again, this was purely a plot device to keep the audience in suspense. You could say that the parents made up the name for the kid's sake so she wouldn't wonder why soldiers were after them.

5. Because if they had, the twist would have been given away too early. You could say that the emotions inside the shelter weren't extreme enough since they didn't involve a direct and threatening situation with anyone.

6. A tough question. Blowing up facilities (like the CDC in The Walking Dead) or cities as in 28 Weeks Later or The Crazies (Remake) and others seems to have become a stsndard part of the genre. It would not usually be a good method, but it is dramatic and looks good on film. It is unclear from the film if anything ever spread beyond the toen.

My Question: How is it that all those people were living underground at the end? It was unclear how many but it suggested a fair number, What are they eating? What water do they have? What about sanitation (i.e. garbage and excretory functions? Wouldn't most of the sewer system have been destroyed by the bombing?

It would have been good if they revealed that by being infected the people didn't need to eat/ didn't need water/ didn't produce bodily waste etc.

And if they tied this in with the whole "302 days mummy" "No zozo not days"... if they changed this from a reference to the miracles thing to a reference to years, this would have been awesome. i.e. They weren't counting days, they were counting years. The food supply lasted so long because they didn't need to eat any food to survive. They only ate occasionally for the joy of it.

That could explain the large number of population surviving for so long and it could be a really cool 2nd plot twist. Of course there are issues with my version, e.g. When they say they are losing weight, this suggests they do need to eat and ruins my idea. Still could've been cool though... to think they'd been in the shelter for hundreds of years and a society of their kin was right next to them.

1) Their masks simply made that noise

2) Maybe they were?

3) They were nervous about reaching it

4) It was just a nickname related to the noises they make

5) They were calm. They controlled their emotions.

6) I didn't get that it was worldwide event. The military seems to have successfully quarantined that area.
