Interrogation (Spoilers)

So if we want to interrogate two witness, we make the first person tell us what happened with him, then we ask the second to confirm that THAT was what really happened? I was enjoying the movie, the twist until that scene. :(

I was thinking about that, too.

Do you think that that cop was maybe playing all sides?

There's a crucial moment where he leaves his vehicle and follows the sound of gunshots. We see the interior scene play out between the kidnappers, but it doesn't show us where that got him.

I wonder if he isn't implying that she needs to tell the same story in order to in effect cover his own butt because the idea of putting Marlon in the spotlight is probably bad with all the dirt he has on the congressman. In any case, I wonder if he wasn't trying to go for an easy resolution since he saw the power of the criminal underworld take out some pretty important people.

Was there another scene where the kidnapper and daughter were together after the shooting? Before the shooting, Marlon had left with the envelope ... I just assumed that the guy made a quick getaway, leaving the girl to be found or escape.

Personally, I admired the economy of the storytelling - the how and why wasn't as crucial as the blurring and corruption of Marlon's morality, and the consequential dragging down of Elvie's ethical standards.

This is the only issue I had with this film. The cop hears the gunshots, gets out of the car and goes towards the sound. That's all they showed.

The cop--as we know--was corrupt. I think it's implied that he took a payoff from the kidnappers. When the cop heads into the direction of the gunshots, they cut to the kidnapper standing outside directing the congressman. It's obvious no one was really trying to get to the truth.

Now that I think about it, one other possibility is that the cop entered the apartment and found the girl. This would make sense because in the end the police have the girl before they let the driver know that they did. This is actually more plausible because the cop wrote the driver's name on the investigation paperwork just before his final interrogation.

In the end we realize clearly that the driver planned the event and his daughter may never forgive him for his choices.
