Sounds like this person is a real heroine to some black women...

I got this impression, listening to the narration and comments of the woman who was shown saying, "....that's what's fabulous about her." The same woman also something about Doris showing people she could do "what she wanted to do."

It makes me sad to hear from those who are impressed with a thief and common criminal.

I have to wonder just what kind of mothers raise their kids to look up to criminals?

Sing until your throat hurts, dance until your legs hurt, act until you're William Hurt.

Agreed. They wanna portray her as a Robin Hood type character. She's just a con liar.

I'm not exactly sure where you are getting this from. The Black woman in the film is a historian, and Doris Payne is one her fields of interest. But I guess in your narrow mind, since Doris is Black and the historian is Black, she's a hero to Black women. You are not very smart to jump to such conclusions. What tools did you use to decide she was a hero to Black women? It's a fascinating story, and for her time, she was very subversive. But based on your shown logic, my words probably do not resonate with you lol.

Thank you. Nobody is calling Doris a heroine. But her story is very fascinating and even the historians and those she stole from had a sense of humor about it.

Doris had to be extremely intelligent and crafty to get away so many years. Looking forward to the movie with Halle Berry playing Doris Payne. I hope it happens.

You already know what it is with the OP. Her anger makes me laugh.

It's ok to like more than one actor. :))

I have to disagree with your pretty narrow view. You chose a very small portion and fit that in to your summary of what this documentary is about and in my opinion you even misjudged that small portion.

She was not lauded for the criminality. Her success for such a long period on the other hand is undeniable, intriguing and by that standard impressive.

People find the mob, the mafia and the kray twins interesting and they were utterly reprehensible, but intriguing.

Have you ever watched a heist film, most are filmed in such a glitzy and glamourous way, do you find their creators, actors and the fans of them to be awful endorsers of criminal behaviour.

She actually lived this for real, it is a fascinating real life story.

Her race and being a female were addressed a few times but were not the focus at all. But those facts make her feats all the more impressive especially during the earlier time periods.

But if you chose to focus on this specific detail, criminality, then how about the abhorrent behaviour of banking cartels and specifically the recent libor scandal and subsequent self created banking crisis by greedy criminals.... How about some of the horrendous behaviour of corporations and what about our leaders and their profit driven wars??? (where is the justice in those situations?)

Or... do you only reserve your judgements for, as you describe it, 'common criminals' (the people she managed to steal the jewels doubtfully would describe her to be common).

I saw through her manipulative personality from the off if I'm honest, but I don't think that is an easy thing to see, it is on display at how she could pull the wool over people's eyes.

I do think she is addicted to the thrill of her own misbehaviour and there is an element of tragedy in that. At least she is honest about her deceptions; definitely too proud without a doubt, but honest the enjoyment she gets out of it.

She would have made a fantastic lawyer or dare I say politician, but if she was either of those that certainly would have inspired far less sympathy from me.
