Mixed feelings.....

I was going to start a thread the day I watched this pilot but never got around to it. Since then it looks like it has been a frenzy of activity! I would have added my comments to an existing thread but I honestly can't be bothered wading through oodles of posts to find the appropriate one......so, bugger it, I will start my own!

I remember The Munsters from when I was a kid and enjoyed the show, and it was a comedy back then. I was interested in seeing what the new show offered and I think I would describe is a "dark" version. I think that the adults (and kids) that grew up on the original Munsters will be sorely disappointed with the "upgraded" version.

If Mockingbird Lane had been an original concept, I would have said that it was a fantastic show with lots of potential, a show similar to True Blood. But it has leaped away from the original Munsters concept and in my opinion has butchered what the older show once was (a family friendly comedy about monsters).

And what is it with Herman? It just seems like Jerry O'Connell decided that he was too pretty to 'Frankenstein it up' and refused to have the original look (flat head, bolts in neck etc). Even Eddie doesn't have the trademark widows peak hairstyle. The creators should have tried to remain true to the original series if they were going to use the concept.

In saying that, I do not hate the show and if it became a regular show i would most certainly watch it.....but I think that it is disappointing that the original format wasn't followed.

So you wanted some shallow redo rather than something substantial.

I know I watched Munsters, but it lacked the special darkness Addams Family had. It was cheap jokes/broad humor that even as a child I recognized.
Frankly, I was unimpressed with the idea of bringing it back. Any number of Halloween episodes of tv shows embraced the feeling of The Munsters. Same for tons of "scary" movies aimed at kids like Hocus Pocus (though I do love that one for the witches.)
But I liked this one. It was Munsters with the darkness of Addams Family.
I LOVED Pushing Daisies. That show died far too soon & I loved that Fuller brought that sweetness to this show.
You can pine for the past all you want. The reality is the past is over & done.

If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lotta luck
But if memories were all I sang, I rather drive a truck

Why re-make the show if one is going to do a carbon copy?

Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense-R.Frost

The pilot was pretty bad.

Herman was just all wrong, not just in appearance but personality. It certainly wasn't a serious take either, i thought it was very funny in parts i didn't realise it was meant to be a black comedy i was expecting something darker.

And they can't decide if they want Lily or Morticha. I know in the original the changed Lilly after the pilot because she was too similar to Morticha..

I don't want a carbon copy of the original, i was supporting this from the start but it has no personally, there is nothing from the classic tv show other than the theme music. Does it want to be The Munsters or the Addams Family? (I'm a fan of both)

Yes to everything. I just found this on YT tonight and even though I'm a fan of the old series, it's not as bad as a lot of people think. It's also not as good as some people think either. For me, it was just "meh".

I don't think more electricity is what this guy really needs. Just throwin' it out there.
