Mixed feelings.....
I was going to start a thread the day I watched this pilot but never got around to it. Since then it looks like it has been a frenzy of activity! I would have added my comments to an existing thread but I honestly can't be bothered wading through oodles of posts to find the appropriate one......so, bugger it, I will start my own!
I remember The Munsters from when I was a kid and enjoyed the show, and it was a comedy back then. I was interested in seeing what the new show offered and I think I would describe is a "dark" version. I think that the adults (and kids) that grew up on the original Munsters will be sorely disappointed with the "upgraded" version.
If Mockingbird Lane had been an original concept, I would have said that it was a fantastic show with lots of potential, a show similar to True Blood. But it has leaped away from the original Munsters concept and in my opinion has butchered what the older show once was (a family friendly comedy about monsters).
And what is it with Herman? It just seems like Jerry O'Connell decided that he was too pretty to 'Frankenstein it up' and refused to have the original look (flat head, bolts in neck etc). Even Eddie doesn't have the trademark widows peak hairstyle. The creators should have tried to remain true to the original series if they were going to use the concept.
In saying that, I do not hate the show and if it became a regular show i would most certainly watch it.....but I think that it is disappointing that the original format wasn't followed.
