True Freedom

The stories of this film exemplify individuality and the freedom of youth. It makes me nostalgic & wishful of my own past. I've never been a fan of skateboarding and I was too young to witness these guys at the height of their popularity, but I greatly respect and admire pioneers following their passions, carving their own niche in the world. It's absolutely infectious and inspirational.

I highly recommend seeing this whether you're a fan of skateboarding or not.

Wow! Very well said. It certainly brought me back to my youth. Stacey Peralta out did himself again with another great documentary. Inspirational indeed.

Skateboarding IS freedom.
That's why people who are afraid of freedom, like cops, hate it so much. Cops, like prison guards, are the most enslaved of all.
I once met a man who had just become a cop. He put on his uniform on the request of his friend, who was "our" friend as well. The idea was he was to show up at the house we hung out at, usually with the smell of pot about, and scare us, for a good laugh. Well, the trick worked, and we all had a good laugh, including the cop.
Ten years went by, and I saw him again. He was unrecognizable.
He had become angry, vindictive, etc.
Sorry for the ramble, but we are losing freedoms in these here Unitey States.
A good therapy for the cop would be to go out and skateboard.

I hear ya! Not defending cops at all, but I would imagine dealing with *beep* for ten years would break any guy down. As a skater from the eighties I can appreciate the kids tearing up the streets today, hell I'll even stop my car for the little bastards, but I've also seen countless YouTube videos of today's skaters being total *beep* to cops/security guards and totally get what's coming to them. We had a little more respect for the authorities back then because they weren't all jacked up like today's cops. Like you said, they need to layoff the roids and pick up a board!

This is a way too simplistic and honestly ignorant look at the world. It' seems like you're putting out this false dichotomy that who ever does not like skateboarding hates freedom. To me and you and many others skating is a freedom of expression of creativity and many other things that bring positive things to our lives but that does certainly not mean anyone who does not like it loves the exact opposite of my or your personal perspective of what skating is and means. Freedom means many things to many people and to others it's art or music or a skill they love to do. We are all not the same, we don't have the same perspectives and there isn't one group of people who don't want freedom for themselves in one camp and people who do want freedom for themselves in another. I'm sure you have done something that has hindered someone else's 'freedom' before. Just because cops are asses to skaters many times does not mean they hate freedom. Because they in force something that you and I think should be nothing to worry about, again does not mean they hate freedom. And what exactly are they and prison gaurds inslaved in? They have a job to do, one that's in a broken system for many reasons but it's a job like a doctor or a dentist that pays the bills. Their freedom comes from whatever those guards happen to think freedom is to them. And enslaved how? Wouldn't the prisoners in the prison be the most enslaved, being as they cannot leave? If your over 18 you can and are free to leave the country. I've gotten my share of tickets and court dates because of skating in the past. But this mentality of us against them as a general rule ruins a much broader outlook on life, hinders empathy and promotes to outcast people who aren't like us. At least realize that many times security who stop us have a job to protect whatever building or school because every company is afraid of lawsuits or liable for property damage and its not all because they hate freedom.
