This is going to sound quite mad, but does anyone else....

...have restlessness/insomnia and anxiety after watching this show? I'm 2 for 2, no idea why.

Probably because you're thinking about all the dirt, filth and body fluids that you probably slept on in the hotels where you stayed in the past . . . or the ones you may stay in later. It's enough to make you consider sleeping in your car instead.

Whe you want so see some relly filthy dumps then go for a trip to London but before you do that read some reviews at trip advisor. After that you will even sleep in a bus shelter.

This show certainly makes you want to clean, and also increases your observational skills about the cleanliness of any room or toilet. I started noticing the laundry room of this apartment complex actually has a -lot- of dust on the lamps and other high places, spider's webs and such that I would never have noticed before.

The other effect is that I feel a bit more clean after watching an episode fully, because of the amazing transformation from a garbage junk yard dump to a dreamy fantasy luxury hotel.

You get a sense of satisfaction from seeing something so awful turn into something so lovely and soothing.

I guess that's the formula for almost all of this type of TV shows, Supernanny transforms horribly dysfunctional families, bad parents and screaming and evil horror brats to a harmonious family with actually kids that actually behave. As you don't really see this latter version of a family, parents or kids in real life (think about all the screaming mongrels in grocery stores or buses that the parents just try to silently negotiate with, if they react at all), it's soothing to see it can be possible sometimes.

And of course Dog Whisperer changes bad dog handlers and dog owners to proper pack leaders, so the crazy, badly behaving (i.e. 'the normal' in this world) dogs change to well-behaved, fun creatures and silent entities that you don't have to suffer from much.

So there's always some kind of transformation to a nightmare to a dream, and that makes these shows satisfying to watch.
