Basic English

How is it nearly an entire race of people continue to speak and teach their children horribl;e English. Skineded? Lookeded. Dear balck people, you NEVER HAVE TO PUT AN "ed" on the end of word that ends with D. I can't imagine how they don;t sound stupid to themsleves.

Then don't ever watch Real Housewives of Atlanta especially Sheree and Nene.

reply

The Jersey Housewives decimate words. It's almost guaranteed that Teresa will mispronounce a word whenever she starts talking. The other Jersey cast members are barely better than her at articulating themselves.

Why would you say that it is nearly an entire race of people that continues to speak like that? Do you know almost every black person? Do you know each black family's thoughts on speaking properly. If I spoke like that, my mother would have lectured me. Before you start criticizing other people, why don't you proofread your own posts. Your spelling is horrid.

Actually I do not care about mispelling on the internet, I also typed it from my phone and while there are a couple of typo's where I accidentally put a ; in words, please point out the horrid spelling.

What I meant by entire race is that you do not see any other race in America speaking that way. Even white trash doesn;t pull that one off. It amazing me how a someone with money and a TV show doesn't have one person in his life to tell him he sounds like a complete idiot.

reply

I don't care if you don't care about misspelling on the internet. The fact that you criticize a race of people based on what you see on a reality TV show, when you have typos and misspellings in your own post, doesn't allow me to take what you are saying seriously. Just because some people from a race/group/community act and speak in a certain way, does not mean everyone from that race/group/community behaves the same way. When you make generalizations like that, you perpetuate stereotypes. I've heard a lot of white people engage in what I would call "lazy" speak, to the point that they are barely coherent. But do I think that all white people speak like that? No, I don't. And as I said in another post to this thread, there are non-black cast members on other reality shows, who mispronounce words all the time, to the point that they get criticized on the boards for their shows, but no one is saying that everyone from their race speaks like that. A lot of people like to stereotype black people, and I refuse to buy into that nonsense. Black people are not a monolith. Once again, black people are not a monolith. So what if there are black people who engage in certain behaviors that don't meet your expectations. Big deal.

" typos and misspellings in your own post, doesn't allow me to take what you are saying seriously."

Again where are the mispellings? I also commented on the speech, not the spelling, but per your last couple of posts you tend to stray from topic. I am not perpetuating any stereo-types, a large amount of the black community and a very large portion of "athlete's and entertainers" speak like complete fools.

I am well aware there are white people that speak like dolts, but point out a few rich white people that speak like complete idiots who then influence millions of other white people to consistantly butcher a group of like words.

My intial post is about black people adding an ED on words that end in D. It is unique to blacks and it is rampant. I am not talking about mines, or not being able to pronounce a TH or a SK, I was specific with the ED example. It is funny that you rail on me for black people not meeting my expectations, yet you yourself I have a feeling find the speach a lot of black people horrible. I hear people on all kinds of shows butcher all kinds of words, hillbillies use Y'all, I hate that word, but again find me rampant or any examples of white people saying lookeded. I point these things out because I want the black community to rise up and hold themselves to higher standards like you seem to do. It takes a village

reply

Look, my main issue with you was that you generalized and made a statement about the speech of what you considered nearly a whole race of people. That's what I took issue with. As to your misspellings, look back on your posts. I shouldn't have to point out the specific words that you misspelled. As for me straying from topic, I'm very much aware that you were criticizing the speech of black people. I wrote my posts the way I did, because I simply thought it was amusing that you were criticizing the way other people speak, yet you had more than one misspelling and typos in your comment. Written/typed communication needs to be clear and accurate so that the receivers of that communication can understand the message that is intended, just like how verbal communication is expected to be clear and accurate.

As a person who is black, when I socialize with other black people, I do not hear them butchering words, and adding "ed" to words that already have a "d" at the end. I guess it's just the black people I happen to socialize with, though. I tend not to associate with people who engage in "lazy" speak, whether those people are black, white, etc. I do find it annoying, and that's not the way I speak, so I choose not to socialize with people who speak like that.

Going back and forth with a provocateur is a waste of energy. If they choose to only acknowledge blacks that speak this way and ignore all of those that do not, then apply it to all, you won't be able to convince them otherwise.

If you think their English is barley recognizable, it's a breeze compared to the UK. There are @ least 15 dialects in London alone.

reply

At least be honest, you don't give a crap about the "Black Community" rising and holding themselves to a higher standard.

My intial post is about black people adding an ED on words that end in D. It is unique to blacks and it is rampant.
When I hear someone add the extra "ed" on the end of a word or use phrases like "I seen her," I blame the schools that allowed the speech to continue through grade, middle and high school. Until we stop allowing schools to teach simply to pass a test or push students through school based on athletic achievement, the problem will continue. It is not unique to Black people, but it is indicative of where a person lived or attended school. I have heard Blacks, Whites, and Hispanics add the extra "ed," and your comment about being rich is simply ignorant. Most athletes and entertainers you hear speaking that way are newly rich and high profile. Having money will not change the years of educational ignorance they encountered and endured during their formative years.

T.I. may not be a very literate person, but you cannot deny how intelligent he is. He’s made some mistakes, some of which have been bigger than others, but even though his manner of speaking is not correct, you can still appreciate the way he takes care of his family.

reply

zabbree, I do deny how intelligent TI.
What makes you say he is not?

His speech has a great cadence. There is something
about the way he speaks, and he is cute.

But he is not intelligent. A convicted felon trying to buy
machine guns with no serial #s and silencers? TI has $ & if he really
felt his life and his family's life was in danger since TI testified
against Philant's murdered, why didnt he go to the judge and ask for
himself to be allowed to protect himself. No, instead his shod and street
mentality made him think he can do whatever and his *ss got caught!

Then while on probation he decided to be on prescription pills and alchol
knowing he isnt supposed to do these things. Once again street mentality.

TI tries to sound smart but he isnt.

If you have intelligent examples please share.

Street mentality doesn't make a person stupid. TI has made stupid decisions, but that doesn't make him a stupid person when you weigh them against the rest of his decisions and choices. TI may be a criminal and a felon, but he’s not stupid. A lot of people find themselves in positions where they can make questionable choices. If that’s the litmus test for intelligence, I guess there are no intelligent people in the world. Everyone makes stupid decisions from time to time, and why don’t we judge the white collar criminals, that many times continue to commit crimes after being caught, the same way we judge other convicted felons?

As far as the gun situation goes, yes, it was dumb for him to be involved, but if coercion had not been a central point within the facts, he would have done a lot more time. TI didn't setup the deal to buy those guns. Someone who worked for him setup the deal and told him he could get him guns. That is part of the reason why his sentence was so short. They called it an unprecedented deal and an experiment, but the reason he was only sentenced to a year and a day for gun charges that carried a MANDATORY 30 year minimum. If TI had not been a felon, he most likely would not have done any time for trying to buy those illegal guns simply because of the way the situation was orchestrated.

When TI was arrested with the drugs in the car, they never stated they found the drugs on him. They stated the drugs were found in the car. TI stated very clearly in an interview he would not allow Tiny to go to jail for any reason. So, even if the drugs were not on his person, he took the charge so his fiancé and the mother of his children would not be prosecuted for any reason. He said Tiny going to jail was never an option.

reply

zabbree, are you sandra rose?
bc you are defending him just like she did.
if you have corurt doc to prove it was coercion
pls post.

I dont care if TI's friend set up the gun buy.
When TI was told by his friend he should have said NO.
And if it was a stupid choice, ok Ill let it slide.

But just months later he pulled over for DUI or DWI and the drugs.
SO for that too it wasnt TI's fault? HE took the blame bc he didnt
want Tiny to go to jail? How about you tell your wife DONT USE DRUGS.
She is a 35yr old mom of 3 she shouldnt be on drugs. And if she is gonna
misuse prescription drugs GO IN A DIFF CAR.

You still havent shown me examples of his intelligence.
TI's speech cadence makes him sound good but he aint
giving society changing words like gandhi or buddha or king .

I don’t have to show you examples. He’s already done that. TI isn't just an entertainer. He's a brand. He's accomplished more in the last ten years than most people accomplish in a lifetime, and passing judgment on him does not negate all that he’s been able to do with his life.

Very few entertainers make it to the level of a TI, Jay-Z, or Diddy to name a few. These men have all done stupid things, but if they were stupid people, they wouldn’t be able to accomplish half of what they’ve achieved. You don’t have to like them, and you can even consider them socially stupid or social misfits. Stupid people do not generally achieve so much with so little in such a short period of time.

I don’t particularly care for rap music, and I can only think of one or two of TI’s songs. So, the “cadence” of his voice has nothing to do with why I find him intelligent. TI is no different from innovators in other arenas. It doesn’t mean that everyone likes him or what he does, but negating what he’s achieved based on your moral values doesn’t diminish his impact.

reply

furthermore on innovation,
whoever thought of licensing is smart bc they saw that music isnt selling.

a famous atl blogger who defended TI time after time.

in 2004 when he was arrestedfor violating probation
she said 'dont the police have real criminals to prosecute?
he was only selling a lil weed, weed aint hurt nobody'

when he beat a lady sheriff she said 'the sheriff shouldnt
have touched TI'

when philant was shot she said 'police dont care about black ppl
so philant wont get justice'

in 2007 when TI was arrested for trying to buy unreg guns while a felon
she said 'it is no big deal. men like guns."

when he was arrested TI WAS pulled over. he or his driver did an illegal uturn in cali
and they were pulled over and arrested.

innovator? PLEASE. ti is from te hood and made it as a rapper.
innovator he IS NOT.

hell i'd call Tpain an innovaotr b4 Ti for his use of auto tune.

Clearly, you don't understand branding and innovation because neither have anything to do with his ability rapper. Rapping isn't all he has done, but since I don't read blogs or gossip mags, I might just have a different perspective than you do.

T-Pain's use of auto tune would not make him an innovator, but branding his style of music did.

reply

clearly you are a fan since you are calling him an innovator.
here is a list of INNOVATORS, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Innovator YOU REALLY FEEL TI IS ON THE LEVEL OF ISAAC ?NEWTON

zabbree, the info I read is COURT DOCUMENTS, so that is now a 'blog/gossip mag'?
ok well pls share what you read ?
pls share how he is an innovator.

branding has BEEN around in the music industry.
since kiss with their makeup lines & dolls.
since RUNDMC and addidad
since LLCOOLJ and addidas suits/kangol hats.

TI has endorsed liquors.
He did have a that GM (chevy impala) deal but he got droped from it bc he thought he as a convicted felon should have guns even though the law says otherwise.

I think you meant that Entire Black Race from Down South like Atlanta. Entire Black Race around Upper East Coast like New York (Where I'm from) speaks way better, proper English than Southern blacks.

reply

All Americans butcher English in comparison to proper Englishmen, including Yanks from the North. Southerners, both Black and White, working to lower class speak in the manner depicted on the show. It's not exclusive to Blacks. T.I.'s grammar isn't horrid, but he certainly has a southern drawl and dialect.

I think it's has to do with Atlanta Accent aka Southern Accent. Maybe that's how majority Black People of ATL talks which it sounds a bit weird to me. No Offense.

It's sad on your behalf.

reply

You know what I'm from Atlanta and believe it or not a lot of born and raised southern white people out here don't exactly sound "Harvard educated" either, so maybe you should think before you type/speak about things like that.

reply

Blacks are all over the globe so you've never encountered the entire race. The grammatical errors that you have issue with are exclusive to a fraction of African Americans who are only a small portion of the black diaspora. My English, Arabic and French are immaculate, therefore your blanket statement really has no validity.
Sometimes people use improper English as a matter of comfort or informality amongst friends and family. Some people are the victims of a poor educational system. These people can be of any race from my observation. You should see an episode of Swamp People for examples of non blacks using improper English.
Sorry, but a family on a reality show and a few dozen athletes don't represent an entire race of people.
