why are items not ready to go

In the uk the package or item a driver collects should be already packaged and ready to be collected, yet on this program they arrive and they have to package and load it themselves.
is this normal for america or is it just for the show?

if i went to an address here in the uk and it was not ready to go and all packaged i would leave, between drivers hours and daily limits you have to wait is not acceptable.

You can leave, but then you don't get paid. The UK is a much smaller country than the USA so driving to pick up the shipment might not be a big deal, but in the USA sometimes you drive for a whole day, maybe 500-600 miles, to pick up the shipment. And after doing that you would leave if the shipment wasn't packed??? You can, but then you wasted 2 days and a lot of gas money. So that's not gonna happen.

to not have a package ready packed and ready to go is extremely rude. you should never expect the courier to pack the goods themselves. they are paid to transport it from A to B not do all the other work like packing it or arranging cranes or other things. All that should be done by the sender/receiver not the driver.

This is a TV show. Generally speaking, loads are usually packaged and ready for shipment on pickup, unless special loading equipment is necessary. The whole "you gotta box up all my record albums before you load them" schtick is nothing but a made-for-TV contrivance. If packing by the carrier truly IS required on a shipment, the specifications will indicate that ahead of time. If it doesn't say packing is required, then the carrier is entitled to further pay for handling the packing.

Not necessarily. My dad used to be a truck driver for the past 30 years or so and it all depends who you deal with. If you're shipping to/from a professional company, they will most likely have everything packed and loaded, since they have the equipment. If you're doing a private shipping, then chances are - the driver will most likely be dealing with everything and that's why they're paid the big bucks. It would be unrealistic to get paid $5,000 for example for 2 days work if everything was already packed and loaded and all these guys would have to do is drive.

Partly true.
If it's not packed & ready to go-we do it.
Packing cost's more money though.Sometimes lots more.
As for the customer deducting $ for each day-Total BS.
Nothing comes off the truck until I get paid.It can all go to storage for all we care & we'll work it out in court. In 22 years I've never had a customer choose that option.Pay me, simple as that-None of this stuff is that time sensitive & anything that is, we know about it ahead of time.
Mildly entertaining show, but total BS.

I've wondered why listings don't seem to make it clear that items are already loaded or if you are expected to load them yourself. You would think this would be an important fact to include. Some of the shippers seem surprised when they arrive. They assumed the item was loaded and ready to go. One episode the shipper spent almost 5hrs unassailable the large item with help. This cut into the time it takes to get the item there.

Pretty sure the "unexpected" is supposed to add drama to the show. A career hauler/mover is going to know or make it known what their expectations are upon arrival.
