The effects are really not that good

This movie has real weak effects for a blockbuster in 2015. I mean especially the scenes which involves cars. The shadows, metallic shine and windows just doesnt look good enough. Who agrees?

Meh.

Wasn't looking.

I was distracted.

I agree. While it was a pretty massive undertaking to try to show such massive destruction, and I suppose they did a decent job, all things considered, but you're right. It didn't look all that realistic. It didn't have that wow factor for me, which is fundamental for a disaster flick.

The budget was $100 million. That's a rather sizable budget. Not WETA or ILM level for movies such as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Transformers, but also a bigger budget than most Sharknado clones.

However, if the Rock weren't starring in this, this would be no different than those Sharknado films. The effects (crumbling skyscrapers and tsunamis) actually looked good to me. But everything was filmed in the blandest possible way. No surprise the cinematographer and director have not really done anything noteworthy before.
