"Need" is just a fiction. As is "should", "must", "value" and "importance".
Getting inside a building (in high point) is useless and dumb, because when it collapse, you have nowhere to run. Getting on a high point like a hill or a mountain is good because nothing'll fall on you if you're at the top of it.
And what matt_shade said is good too. Ground lines will be last way of communication (old phone), find useful equipment (torch, food, water, emergency radio)
Or go to a baseball stadium, because even when the entire city is falling down, a baseball stadium will remain standing and completely undamaged.

I won't even have to look for one... I like old rotary phones and I have one in my kitchen. Love the way the dial goes "whhhirrrr" on long numbers. Never liked the push-button style.
From this movie, I learned that it's completely okay to take emergency equipment off a fire truck and use it for your personal immediate needs, plus take some extra in your pockets for later. The three of them should have been shot as looters. share
