The bad American accents ruined it

Why do they have to fake accents and do so unconvincingly? Ruined the movie. They both sound like robots and keep scrunching their faces when trying to pull it off. That and the annoying slips into their natural accents really takes you out of the story.

I would not go as far to say it ruined it, but I did not see the reason why they did it. They could have just said that they were from the UK and that is it. In case it was important that they were americans(which was not the case in my opinion) I am sure they could have found americans to play these characters.

Agreed. Its not like I don't like the actors themselves but to force them, really hobble them, with fake accents makes an already thin story line all the more difficult to enjoy.

It didn't ruin it for me... movie was entertaining actually.

For being called Collide, it needed at least 2 more action sequences.

I do have to say that what action was onscreen was fantastic and I only wanted more of it. Kingsley was hilarious and Hopkins was nasty.

The car scenes were much better than I had anticipated as they looked absolutely like real stunts that took much planning aside from a few obvious CGI sequences. You'll know the real ones from the "fake" ones.

The truck missing the golfball stash did seem like a plot hole like others are saying but the reveal is so late in the film you sort of forget about it.

Also the cops NOT covering all sides of the building was ridiculous as well...

Let's just sneak out the back, ROTFL.

Simple mistakes that could have been avoided.

I like Hopkins but he did just regurgitate his role in Westworld (if you've seen that show) and seemed horribly miscast. His menancing that worked so well in Silence of the Lambs (the I'm so calm and educated but may kill you at any moment routine) seemed very out of place for the gangsteresque role he played here. Even the scene at the restaurant where is dressing down Ben Kingsley was stilted and wooden. Kingsley was great and over the top but as he often does, played it just right (think Sexy Beast).

Nick Hoult was the wrong guy for this and ever since Road Warrior reboot they've tried to turn him into a leading man but in the wrong genres. Action star with American accent doens't work for him - he's built too much like a millenial tween and does not have any 'bad boy' affect to him. Thats why he was great in Warm Bodies but terrible in How to Kill your Friends.

I've seen a video on Wired's YouTube channel a few weeks back, where a professional dialect coach has analyzed famous examples on how to do an accent right or wrong, but he also pointed out, blame doesn't always lie with actors, but also with tight shooting schedules (leaving virtually no room to prepare a good dialect) and bad dialect coaches.

At least on 2 occasions, Kahl's character was even ignorant for one, he proclaimed, talking in your sleep/unconscious state is typically American, and it isn't, and two, he asked Wolfgang if he speaks English after he already asked his name.

All 4 of them are British actors, so my hunch was that they made 2 of them American to be both fish out of water, and to appeal to the American market. On that note I used spoilers because this one comes out a month from now in the US.

I'm glad somebody else thought so too. It did ruin the film for me. The one question that kept burning in my pedantic mind was why did they have to be American? They're both British actors so why not two British people in Germany?
