How can a movie with only 3 reviews, 1 8-stars and 2 10-stars wind up with an overall rating of only 5-stars??

Clearly some people who don't want to put their names to a viewable reviews want to lower the overall score of this film. Since I haven't seen it (tips of where I can would be appreciated, I was made aware of it through the Daily Show), I can't say if it's deserving of it, but I suspect that they haven't seen it either, they are most likely making money from drugs being criminal or they are Christians who will not listen to arguments no matter what.

In cases of politicly controversial films, I would go with the median score, which in this case is 10 right now.

IMDB scores aren't indicative of the actual quality of the film in many cases. But the reason for the low score can be explained. The creator of the documentary was on The Bill Maher Show as well as The Daily Show which Conservatives do not like. I assume many of the negative votes are from this crowd who have not even seen the film but despise the liberal affiliation.

Good question. I haven't seen the film yet, but plan to. It was recommended to me by my son, who is a Republican, Christian, lawyer, and veteran of the Afghanistan war. Oops! Wait! He's part of the conspiracy to lower ratings on such films because the public relies on the stars to make decisions on what to watch.

LOL Thanks, Purves5. Please thank your son for me for his service to our great country. I'd like to see this one too.

Sorry, can't stand speculation and supposition against any group. Yeah, it will probably shock my conservative views, but I'm not against the truth. It's what we do about it that matters. Thanks for a fun post. Maybe someone will respond to your post with the real truth. :)

I don't know, probably from anti-drug crusaders?

I really enjoyed this film, top notch.

9/10

I don't know, probably from people with above-average intelligence who aren't brainwashed by propaganda and actually have empathy for other human beings.

I thought the film covered largely familiar territory, didn't really delve into numbers and specifics, and was mostly a missed opportunity on an important subject.

It tries to both document the human toll and the overall problem with the War on Drugs and ends up doing a middling job of both. I still think it's a decent overview of the problem(s), but it could have been much more cogent and hardhitting with more details.

BUT perhaps there is a need for this kind of coverage.

For some logical analytical people a bunch of statistics and facts can be helpful in changing their point of view on an issue that they previously thought was very black and white, cut and dried.

For OTHERS you have to wake them up out of their judgemental slumber, hit them in the heart where they see the INhumanity occurring to others -- who could just as easily be them or their children or grandchildren (no matter what race; after all there's no reason to believe things aren't gonna get worse as time goes on, unless something changes -- in the HEARTS and MINDS of the citizens of America!)

The human toll is far more than just raw numbers. Each of these are people, human beings with potential in their decades of life ahead of them, who are often ignorant, weak, vulnerable people who have very few options and have no idea how extreme the consequences of one non-violent act might be if "caught" by thugs with guns and badges. And suddenly they are locked away for 2 or 3 decades, their potential gone in a moment of bravado-fueled morality imposing by the nanny state. "Land of the free" HA!
