The title does not make sense?

'Sugar man' was his drug dealer, so they were searching for his drug dealer? I guess Searching for Rodriguez was less catchy.

Are you fining kidding? WTF

What exactly are u arguing about, that Rodriguez made a song called 'Sugar Man' or that it was about his drug dealer.

The dude who owned the record store in South Africa was nicknamed Sugar Man.

He wrote in the CD something like 'Any detectives out there?' when the CD was rereleased.

Another guy took up the call and helped him look for Rodriguez, he wasn't searching to find Sugar Man, he was searching FOR Sugar Man, so he could help him find the musician he grew up listening to.

Anyway, that's how the title made sense for me.

It's about searching for Rodriguez. The title refers to Rodriguez using a term he is associated with. Just as a news headline did that they showed in the documentary which said: "Sugar Man" Rodriguez Plays To Adoring Crowd.

Was Rodriguez even known as Sugar Man, even though it was the title of one of his songs? The title is even more confusing in light of the fact that Stephen "Sugar" Segerman is one of the writers, and he features prominently in this film.

If anyone is confused about the title, I'd ask them to check their shoelaces before taking a step in case they've tied the shoes together.

It's clear the South Africans would have thought of Rodriguez as the 'Sugar Man' given the name of the song. You don't need to delve into it being his drug dealer etc or the store owner's nickname. Jeez
