I thought it was the musician's union where he was constantly being humiliated. On a side note when I saw him set fire to the building I thought he was going to kill himself. I had an uncle who was a musician almost do the same thing. He meticulously planned his suicide and set his truck and apartment on fire before he shot himself. I was surprised when the character in the movie started the fire, especially when things were starting to look his way, but seeing the path he took and what I have seen in my life, it made sense to me.
