Detained at LAX. Michael Moore had to help him out of trouble.

From Michael Moore (on Twitter): Emad Burnat, Palestinian director of Oscar nominated "5 Broken Cameras" was held tonight by immigration at LAX as he landed to attend Oscars. Emad, his wife & 8-yr old son were placed in a holding area and told they didn't have the proper invitation on them to attend the Oscars. Although he produced the Oscar invite nominees receive, that wasn't good enough & he was threatened with being sent back to Palestine. Apparently the Immigration & Customs officers couldn't understand how a Palestinian could be an Oscar nominee. Emad texted me for help. I called Academy officials who called lawyers. I told Emad to give the officers my phone # and to say my name a couple of times. After 1.5 hrs, they decided to release him & his family & told him he could stay in LA for the week & go to the Oscars. Welcome to America. "It's nothing I'm not already used to," he told me later. "When you live under occupation, with no rights, this is a daily occurrence."

Emad is just telling his story from his own personal perspective, but that doesnt make him a propagandist. Its just life from his point of view.

You are really mad that jews are portrayed for what they are, aren't you. It wasn't enough with the thread you created?

reply

Why do you have to bring Jews into this? Anti Semitic scum, don't ignore that what he said was true. This documentary was pure propaganda made for leftists to cry fake palestinian tears.

reply

I have nothing against jews but I hate that you can't say anything negative about them or you will be called antisemitic. They are not all saints, you know?

reply

For life of me, have NO idea how Jew's (even someone being charged as "antisemitic") even managed to get inserted & then insults erupt in this thread (and yeah, like it's a MYSTERY why the world can't get ALONG?)

Would be nice if it stayed on point.

The fact this man & family was detained is pretty scary (don't dare suggest it doesn't REEK of profiling as it IS just that) & at face value, looks like mere facts of this were reported on Moore's twitter page.
So what is the beef on that...he's free to write whatever he so chooses.

For the love of God, how that can turn this into a conversation about MOORE is beyond comprehension to me. He's nothing to do with it that I can tell but opinions get immediately injected at the mere hint of his name. I know he appears to evoke strong opinions but my God....Who cares??!!

And NO, the reason this film was nominated for awards comes ultimately by its own merit & to accuse it of being pro-terrorist is plain sad (unjust & a bit sick).

Not that it matters but I prefer disclosing the reality which is that I have NO agenda & in fact, find ample fault with BOTH sides, so feel free to accuse me if you want (you would be utterly mistaken) but admittedly, I'm sick to death of name calling, hostility, arrogance & ignorance. Those of you perpetuating this line of thinking ARE part of the world's problem & opposite of any move toward a solution! Your vitriolic rants are damaging & destructive to the society in general (and ANY specific conflict in which you can't see the forest for the trees. Most conflicts arise from JUST that sort of rationale).
Maybe think of that next time you name-call across the aisle..YOU are the one with a clear & biased agenda!
