How utterly infuriating.

Why are they "releasing" this film this way, with a one-night showing in a few scattered cities in the US? To make sure as few people see it as possible? I simply don't see the point of making it extremely difficult for fans to view the film. Why not just release it?

That's very very expensive. As much as I'm looking forward to this, it's still a niche film. Releasing it like this gives some people a chance to see it and then word of mouth can spread, interest can be drummed up. That, plus the money these showings generate may lead to a wider release. I'm sure they weren't like "Hey, let's release it like this to really upset people! That'll be great."
