AWESOME GAME.

It'll never be GTA, but it's the next best thing!

Ridiculously OTT and very fun. A step up from Saints Row 2 (which is a great game itself).

My only complaint is that Eliza Dushku didn't return to voice Shaundi. She was wicked.

Saints Row went where GTA should have gone - Rock Star went down the "reality but boring route", Saints Row went down the "Let's not forget this is a game we're making" route.

A step up from Saints Row 2

I found it to be a step down from SR2 to be honest.
The removed a lot of what made SR2 so good and didn't really replace it with anything of note.

It was also a much smaller game with less to play around and interact with too.
Fewer activites, less interaction with your cribs, etc. No more phone numbers, which were fun to find and ofter gave rewards.
Smaller map and less missions. Now I don't mind a smaller map if they have made that map more interactive and detailed (like GTA IV over San An), however they have not done that. They just made the map smaller (and much less interesting to explore) and removed other features.

I agree SR3 is "ridiculously OTT and very fun" cos it really is.
But I found SR2 a better game with a much more interesting story and just overall more fun to play around in.
If only SR2 had the VTOL as that was the only thing that really stood out in SR3.

Yeah SR3 is a good fun game, but I wouldn't say it's a step up from SR2 at all.

Yep, I was a Saints Row hater until very recently. I started playing them in order a few weeks ago. SR1 was pretty rough but it had its moments. 2 and 3 are fun as hell. I've noticed a lot of fans whining that SR3 is a big downgrade from SR2. I can kind of see their point in certain ways, but it's still a great fun game.

I agree. Saints Row: The Third was my first SR game when I bought it in the Playstation Network. Steelport is a lot different than Stilwater, but when anybody starts playing SR3, they'll have to enter a new land with what I call a few restrictions that SR2 had. I'd like to pretend that Steelport is a totally new land than Stilwater. Either way, it's still good than GTA. I also LOVE the funny over the top stuff.

The only thing about this game I could really complain about is the character development, whereas is SR2 you really got to know the characters + was rooting for them in this one I just didnt find mysel really caring for the characters much they didnt really spend enough time with their backgrounds etc....

I agree with you about the character development. Speaking of characters, I hated Shaundi in this game. Her voiceover actress' voice was annoying, and her character change was annoying as hell. She was the only one distraught over John Gat's death. She wasn't there from the beginning, she didn't go through much with him. She barely had any interaction with him in SR2. How is it that she was so upset? Why was she the only one motived to kill Loren, the only one that wanted vengeance? Speaking of Gat; His death was such a letdown. Some offscreen, comedic/slapstick commentary via loudspeaker death? Come on. Also, the missions were BS. The fact that ACTIVITIES were supplanted as MISSIONS in order to advance in the game's story was annoying.

Yep, this game is where the writers really started to paint themselves into a corner. Taking Johnny out of the game was crazy, since he's the face of the Saints. Shaundi not only lost her original voice, but became an entirely new character. My biggest complaint after losing Eliza was why they rewrote the controller system for driving; so you had a different button for shooting now, depending if you're on foot or in a vehicle???

And now, SR5 has Gat and/or Kinzi rescuing the Boss from Hell???

And I thought playing POTUS in the Steelport-Matrix was crazy!

Old post, but meh.

She was so upset, as clearly detailed in the story missions, "homie" chatter, and audio logs in Saints Row IV because Gat and the Boss showed her something she never knew she wanted--a family. They were the first people to care about her--genuinely care about her, and didn't just try to get into her pants. They showed her that she could be more than a drug-addled slut--that she could have self-respect, and a place to belong. They gave her something worth more than money.

And then Gat died.

The Boss had been dealing with death for a while--Carlos in Saints Row 2, for one thing. He'd been a part of death in one way or another since he became a Saint. But Shaundi hadn't--she was just a stoner who slept with anyone who gave her the time of day; she never cared enough for anyone, nor anyone for her, to really feel anything if they died. Then one of the two people who changed that died.

It's reasonable that she reacted how she did. I agree it could have been explained better in Saints Row: The Third, but in Volition's defense there was a lot of behind-the-scenes kerfluffle to deal with. It was explained in Saints Row IV, which is close enough in my book.

saints row 3 is so chock full of ridiculous action, blood and gore, kickass music, and dark humor, it's just pure fun lol

and my favorite missions are the botched bank heist (craziest heist ever lol), the penthouse takeover with the song power playing, and the drawn out gore soaked wrestling match at murderbrawl 31
