Is the judge referring to the rumor of handon moving the plant to mexico? Otherwise what the judge said made no sense.
I never heard such a things that if you come up with an idea it belongs to your boss.

In fact that is what happened with Steve Jobs and his buddy at Apple. When they first made the home computer they had to first show it to HP to see if they wanted to use it, when they turn them down, they then proceeded to build and sell their own personal computers. Very common.
