I donated and I am disappointed
I'm a huge AVGN fan. At nearly age 30, I'm not afraid to admit that either.
In a one sentence review, I would say that this movie feels like a Michael Bay movie but with more practical effects.
Meaning that there was nothing at all exciting or involving in the movie. The plot failed to capture or pull me in the slightest bit. I honestly cannot agree that there's a climax in the film, either. Lots of jokes fell flat. Some jokes were OK. The mythology part was pretty cool. When Cooper was discussing his view of the earth (how it's flat) was probably the other time I laughed. But seriously folks, 90% of this film is filled with complete boredom.
As a fan-film, it's bad. If it's not a fan film, then it's still bad. I've watched this movie twice to give it a full assessment and to reseat my expectations appropriately and I'm sorry to say that this movie is extremely forgettable.
If it helps even more, I watched this with 4 other AVGN fans. One of them thought it was the worst movie he'd ever seen (not from a technical level, but from the extremely boring nature of the movie). The other two thought it was "fair". Only one of them, who happens to be 17 years old, thought it was "awesome" and I'm not sure what he was smoking.
I applaud James for doing what he set out to do. It's a huge achievement and he gets massive respect from me. But when it comes down to the actual product that was produced, this is simply not good.
