AVGN episodes per year

Being a bit bored, I researched things a bit.

How many AVGN episodes did Rolfe make per year? Let's see.

2004-2006 : 8.5 episodes per year

2007: 22 episodes per year
2008: 28 episodes per year (the peak!)
2009: 21 episodes per year
2010: 16 episodes per year

2011-2013: 5.3 episodes per year

2014: 5 episodes per year (counting the 12 micro-episodes as one)

2015: 1 episodes per year so far

So, from around eight to twenty eight, to one. It took more than three months to give the audience another AVGN episode.

The twelve micro-episodes were promising, there was some quality stuff there, especially towards the end.

The new Hong Kong '97-episode is good.

I can't really blame Rolfe, though - I would be tired in his place as well. Plus, his 'life situation' is probably busy and demanding. But it would obviously be nice to get some kind of announcement that AVGN is now in the sidelines, and the audience absolutely will not get more than around five episodes per year.

That's not even an episode every two months! I know it'd be impossible to make an episode every two weeks or so, but I am sure that at least seven episodes a year should be doable - IF he didn't spend so much time, effort and energy on all the other stuff that no one really wants to see anyway.

Still, it's his life, and .. I wish I could say that he doesn't owe anyone anything (after the gameplayers financed his movie, based on the misleading statements he said about the movie before the production began, I'd say he owes them something - especially considering how lousy and cheap the movie was, and what a probably huge (undisclosed) amount he pocketed of that money. The gameplaying community didn't give him over 300 thousand bucks just so he can buy new stuff and do the movie as cheaply as he possibly can).

It's almost embarrassingly ironic, that every time I point out something, something happens that very day that almost invalidates my whole point.

There WAS a new AVGN episode after all, and it was good. If the game had been less simple, the episode could easily have become a real classic, on par with the good old episodes. Sometimes the game itself becomes the limit.

I am glad he toned down the 'movielike gimmicks' and focused on the game mostly. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the episode whatsoever. So he has still got it.

But I have to wonder - is it, and is it going to be worth it to wait for three months per episode?

He's no longer contractually obligated to release a set number of episodes. Just came off a grueling production of his film and has a child that has medical problems. Give the guy a break. He said even if he only releases one a year he'll still do them. James and Mike is a popular show on the site and doesn't require him to do anything other than sit down and play the games. Mike edits all those videos.

I'm sure he'll get back into the swing of things eventually. He has plans to do more Board James as well but you're being too impatient. If he wants to slow down a bit, let him.

..and now the same day we post he releases a new episode. Happy now?

I'm actually kind of surprised he doesn't make a ton more episodes. There's so many games you think it would be easy and fun to do.
