1990's flat screen tv?

When Marc and his family are at Claudio's house his sister Cecile is watching a flat screen tv, did they have those in the early 90's?

Flat screen TV'S (Plasma) were first sold to the public in 1997 at a cost of $15k each.

Just watched this movie, and it isn't a flatscreen. It looks like a b&o mx6000, the remote is definitely from a b&o tv.
The mx6000 is from 1995,so it is still newer than the time period the movie is supposed to take place (late 80s), if it is indeed an mx6000
