Underrated movie for families and/or 80s nerds

I think Pixels was another case of the critics not getting it.

I read one review where the author expected Independence Day by way of The Lego Movie and was disappointed that it wasn't. To anyone familiar with video game culture it was instead clearly "The 80s Attack" by way of The King of Kong, and it did that well. It was obvious who Dinklage's character was parodying.

And even for those unfamiliar with that story, or too young to have been around in the heyday of the games featured, the supporting cast still make it a fun, goofy and slightly heartwarming movie.

I disagree, I thought it was a pretty weak movie.

Not so bad that it's inconceivable that anyone anywhere could like it, I imagine old Gamers might think it's a hoot. But overall, IMHO the critics got it right.

I'm definitely an old gamer, started hanging out in video arcades in 1976. On one hand, I do think the movie was nowhere near as bad as the RT score would lead you to believe. But on the other, personally I still didn't think it was all that great. The writing was just... meh. Not particularly sharp, clever, witty, etc. But it did get a few laughs out of me, which is all I was asking for.

I agree. This was a good, fun movie.
