I know there some obscure others that aren't coming to mind right now.
That was actually Arkanoid, which is very similar to Super Breakout, but has warp zones, power pills, etc.

I can't wait til this comes out on DVD so I can rewatch because I know we're missing some still, especially during the final invasion. I really liked the nod to Burgertime! But I only noticed the fried egg lol. Everything happened so fast and chaotic I didn't see if there were sausages, buns, etc! Lol

shareThere was one point in the movie, I think during the big battle at the end, where there were some explosions from Missile Command going off in the background.
And at the end of the credits, it lists the copyrights to all the games that show up. I noticed Battle Zone listed, but don't remember seeing any green, wireframe tanks in the movie.
The world sucks. If it didn't, we'd all go flying right off of it.

shareI think that was just an homage AND shot at the Smurfs. They were HUGE in the early 80's. My old man had an 8-track tape of Smurfs singing pop songs....
shareThere was never a Smurf game in the arcades, but there was Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle in 1982 which would line up with the film somewhat, I had it on my Colecovision.
There was no reason it would have been included in the transmission leading to the invasion though, similarly with Paperboy which was released three years after the space launch.
Agree they were simple nostalgic inclusions, bu you could make the argument that the aliens copied a broader range of iconic imagery from that period to expand their understanding of Earth's culture and how to use it against the humans.

After watching this movie I'm kinda glad they only used characters from the old 80s arcade games.
Imagine the outrage if they put modern day video game characters like Ezio Auditore, Nathan Drake, Master Chief, Ada Wong, Arkham Batman, David Mason, Commander Shepard, Lara Croft, Geralt of Rivia, David Crenshaw, Sam Fisher... into this Adam Sandler comedy... LOL
