Oh, come on...seriously?!

I've talked to quite a few people who have deemed this film as "amazing, one of the best films ever, as good as Full Metal Jacket". And I just can't even fathom how they could make such claims. This movie was terrible. First off, let me just say that I like Andrew Garfield as an actor, but this role definitely wasn't for him. I feel the same way about Vince Vaughn. He's a great actor, but still, the casting choices were awful. And call me a cold hearted unsympathetic monster, but when it comes to a war film, last thing I want to see a film about a soldier who can't fire a weapon. I mean, come on. Give me a break. That plot doesn't exactly intrigue me. And a lot of people told me about the "super intense war scenes". I guess I failed to notice. This is why I don't have a whole lot of faith in war movies these days. They're always so overrated and over-hyped. Am I alone here?

reply

Yes you’re alone.......well I’m here for a second and now I’m gone....so youkre alone again.

reply

You´re in a very small minority. I thought it was a fantastic film.

reply

I thought the beginning of the movie was boring, but once Desmond gets to boot camp, things improve, and once he gets to Okinawa the movie just takes off and is great.

reply

I didn't love this film either - but perhaps for different reasons. It's very Flag Wavey - I'm assuming this appeals to his American audience and for them overrides any weakness in the film. For the rest of the world not so much.
[Edited: don't know why I confused Gibson with Eastwood in my original answer - getting old I guess.]

reply

Lol...I like that term "flag wavey".

I'm not American and I liked this film a lot. I don't mi d Patriotic American films, I've watched enough Japanese and Korean patriotic films, why would I take it against Americans? Besides a lot of American films tend to be far more subtle than some Asian Patriotic films from Korea or China. Lol.

reply

Good film but nowhere near the likes of Full Metal Jacket.

reply

reply
