All around. Incredibly, tragically, stupid. Hopefully these people didn't die in vane. With all the resources devoted to law enforcement - has their been any lessons learned.

They allowed their children to die in gruesome circumstances for some neo-Luddite ideology and you hope they didn't die in vain? Really?
