Jannie Coverdale's statement about americans, and the big picture

Anybody else a bit offended that she thought a child killing terrorist couldn't be an American? She seemed very put off that he wasn't middle eastern as well.

Not to say she is a bad person or anything, as we all have said stupid crap in our lives. But I still wish people would open their eyes. People in other countries are not inherently more likely to murder children. They are not bad people just because they are not American citizens.

It's this sort of blanket bigoted statement that make people in other countries think all Americans think they are better than them. It's a real shame that it perpetuates the idea that we aren't all together on this planet. We COULD share a common goal of bettering our planet and the lives' of everyone on it, but we'd rather stick to our own "communities" and races and cultural backgrounds. Some rather stick to just taking care of themselves. How is the world supposed to get better if people are acting like that?

I wish people would realize that we can together, if we rise up, take the power from those who suppress us, and make thew world amazing. We have all the resources and science we need to do this. We are advanced enough to wipe out world hunger.

Why do we allow some to be in control and ignore what the rest of us need? I am not against leaders, but I am against those who are proud of what their greed has gotten them, who sneer at the rest of us who are just trying to survive. They don't need mansions around the world and private jets. People need clean water! We all have the right to live decent lives, but we act like we don't when we worship money and the elite in Forbes magazine.

I have to preface my response by saying that I have NOT seen the movie, yet. I came here to see what it was about, etc and wanted to see what the comments were about. However, I will say that I was working in a federal building in 1994 in Austin, Texas. We were constantly receiving bomb threats and had to evacuate on a regular basis. So the OKC bombing has always reminded me that terrorism can happen to anyone at any time and, but for the makeup the building the agencies inside they could have chosen my building. I do agree that Americans have been spoiled for far too long about ours being the best country, superpower, etc. Until 9/11, we were mostly unaware of terrorism because it had never really touched our soil. I was talking with a friend of mine about how the Affordable Care Act is going to 'ruin the our the best medical care system in the world' (his words). I tried to explain to him that we are not on top in that area and that we have the highest infant mortality rate of an industrialized nation, but he didn't believe me. As Americans we are a little bit spoiled/sheltered to a degree, unless a person goes looking for that information. Regardless, I can understand the woman's sentiments. I think what she was trying to say was not out of ignorance, but the fact that MOST Americans value life too much to do something so horrible. Plus, you're talking about the South where most people believe in God (and those that do not don't really voice that opinion very loudly.)

As Americans, we have been "CONDITIONED" to believe the "the enemy" is someone outside our country. We have grown up with that notion and that notion is being reinforced every day by our government and our media and perceptions that are created every day.
On the other side of the coin, we feel especially betrayed, when we find that it is one of our "fellow Americans" that seeks to destroy our country and our way of life.
There are a number of overseas countries that are conditioned to hate Americans. They too are brainwashed and disillusioned. Some of them are used to experiencing "terror from within" as well as a perceived "threat" of the US.
What people on BOTH sides need to understand is that it is the GOVERNMENTS that control the thoughts ideas and (mis)information of its citizens. Most people want peace and to be able to live their lives without fear being killed, imprisoned, enslaved, or manipulated by an outside source. Again, many are not "free" in their own country.
Here we have the "illusion" of freedom, but we are far from free of manipulation of information we gat and how that shapes and manipulates our lives. Peoples "minds" are not necessarily "free" even if their bodies are relatively free of restriction.
The problem is that the Oklahoma City bombing was contrived and manipulated and fabricated to protect government agencies as well as ?????.
I felt AWFUL for Cloverdale and the loss she suffered. I applaud ALL of the people of Oklahoma city and beyond who would not rest until they found out the TRUTH that was being concealed from them.
