They could have saved Billy in the flashback sequence

Then he would have no reason to turn into a killer.

It looks a bit sweaty in there so you may need to apply baby powder Zapp Brannigan

cryofry, you bring up a good point. i thought that at least one of the main group was going to step in and try to help/save Billy in both flashback scenes (that showed his assault in the outhouse). i'm surprised none of them even mentioned it (if not overtly go over to try and help/save him).

there was no reason why they couldn't have at least attempted to help Billy. Max had no qualms or questions about whether or not she should help her "mother" out.

reply

Agreed. I was very surprised when no one even brought up trying to save him.

reply

Just saw it, and I was thinking the same thing.

reply

I thought that was odd as well. And they even got the opportunity to do it twice. Heck, if they can time travel by simply telling his origin story they can still do it.

reply

I don't think it would have worked. Even within the "rules" of the universe, if Billy or any of the outsider characters try to save Young Billy from being bullied, they save a completely different character. Think about it, both Billy and Young Billy are played by different actors, and would therefore be two different characters. Saving the young one does nothing since he's a different character, technically.

reply

but jamasian, within the FINAL GIRLS internal logic/rules Billy is only 1 person. within BLOOD CAMP Billy (young and old) is 1 person and not a CHARACTER being played by an actor. just like Max's mom was not the woman in the movie.

reply

I guess that is right, but as soon as they save Billy from getting bullied than the movie is over. And the first time they had the flashback it was only about 30-45 minutes in, and by the second time it was near the end but close enough for it to be a climax.

It would make the movie over way too quickly, and maybe it was something that the characters didn't even think of at the moment.

reply

I wish they tried to save him in the flashback but have him turn on them making them realize that the outhouse incident had nothing to do with why he became a killer. The scariest killers in horror movies have no motive other than they really enjoy it.

reply

The director is keeping that possibility in his pocket for the sequel (if there is one). It's also why we don't see the rest of the flashback after Billy is burnt and goes to a building the kids don't recognize.

reply

the flashback wasn't even going back in time, it was just a different scene. they really didn't go back in time (inside the movie) which is why they were in black and white.

if they did go back in time (inside the movie itself) why were they in black and white to begin with

i took it as just a scene that wouldn't change anything even if they saved him,

reply

but they did go back in time as the very scene had the tear 195 something" (I forgot) on it, which gave it a reason to be in black in white because it was the 50s where as the actual movie was the 1970s or 80s considering the hippie van and all.

But yeah I kept thinking that they were gonna eventually at least attempt to save Billy one time and if they did it would have been a good twist to have Billy turn on them as another poster suggested. Like maybe he thinks the main characters are in on it and wont hear them out or something like that.

Either way I thought the movie was pretty damn good. Not the best in the world but entertaining as hell. I'd definitely watch a sequel.

reply

I thought so too!

Since it was a flashback, intervening would have only changed Nancy's memory/narration of what had happened -- it wouldn't have actually rewritten the backstory itself. So Billy would still be evil, but the reasons for his villainy would no longer be apparent.

At least, that's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.

reply

Possibly, but they still could have tried.

Poorly Lived and Poorly Died, Poorly Buried and No One Cried

reply

I agree they should have tried, they probably didn't think of it the first time, but the second time I thought for sure that was what they were going to do. However it's possible that it wouldn't have helped anyway because I was under the impression that the story Nancy told was the legend of Billy and not a definite sequence of events. She wasn't really there to witness what happened so it's just a story passed down to scare campers and not what really turned Billy into a supernatural killer. They still should have tried though lol.
