Significance of the 92 minute repetition cycle

That was a fun movie. The idea of people being transported into a movie is not quite original but this movie made good use of it. One thing I didn't quite get though. When they first wake up inside a movie, they discover that the yellow car arrives in the same spot after every 92 minutes. What is the significance of that? I presume that 92 minutes is the length of the movie, but other than that, it's quite confusing to me. Are we supposed to conclude that everything that takes place in this movie world is repeated after 92 minutes? If so, would it be possible to save the victims by just waiting for the killing scene to occur again? Or perhaps it's only the "scripted events" that repeat every 92 minutes. Even so, it's quite confusing. There's also this strange scene where the characters run from the first killing and that running is shown over and over again - what the heck was that supposed to mean? Anybody have any thoughts?

No. Everything happen in real time after the gang joins in the movie's events.

Well, I must say it's still somewhat confusing. Based on what is shown, I think that the rules of the movie world are the following. All the scripted events repeat after 92 minutes in a never ending loop. The new arrivals can join in the events and thereby they might avert some of the scripted events from happening. But the rest of the scripted events would "try" to go on as scripted. And after 92 minutes, all the events would start anew, with the yellow car arriving again. The arrivals will be automatically transported to the sequel (even if they get killed in the first movie), but the original characters apparently cannot leave world of the first movie.

But that is incorrect.

Everything goes along in REAL TIME once the gang joins in the film's events.

I'm not sure what you mean by "real time". Everything happened in "real time" before the gang arrived in the movie. And after they joined the movie events, things continued in "real time". Real time or not, is not the issue.

You're very mixed up.

Once the gang joined the film's actions, everything didn't all take place in 92 minutes.

OK, now I see what you mean. Are you saying they were in this movie longer than 92 minutes? It seems reasonable to say so. In that case, the cue for the movie to end was not "the 92 minutes are up" but rather "the bad guy is dead". After the bad guy was killed by whichever virgin however quickly, the credits rolled and the movie started again for the original cast.

The in-universe movie ran for 92 minutes (same as the actual film). They were able to see it repeating itself because they were out of the time-loop when they arrived. Once they join in the events of the plot, they had to move along with it.

That's why they awakened in the sequel.
