Nothing to be proud of going to jail age 17 (Tim had over 20 felonies!)

Such an ignorant family. Miss Robbies son is almost 'boasting' about being sent to the St Louis Penitentiary by age 17. Talking about he had over 20 felonies... then he complained there was no where he could get a job. So the family opened the eatery, hired countless felons. Seems most of them early in the series weren't even serious about working, just playing in the kitchen and talking trash. What a dysfunctional black family in Saint Louis. Makes me ashamed of my peoples.

Are you joking?

I didn't see him as boasting at all. Not sure why you interpreted it that way. He was emotional about what had happened to his family and talked about how he wanted to give others a chance. He said that prison made him into the man he is today. That wasn't boasting, it was just the truth. If he was proud of what he'd done, wouldn't he have returned to a life of crime when he got out of prison instead of trying to look for a legitimate job?

He's an upstanding guy trying to give back to his community so they won't do the same thing he did. What's wrong with giving people a second chance? Your criticism of him makes absolutely no sense. Would you prefer that he turn his back on them? Would you prefer that he not tell his story? I'm confused.

And furthermore, if his family was that dysfunctional, there's no way that their restaurant would be as successful as it has been. They are expanding quickly, so obviously they must doing something right. Quit hating.

Where I come from, if a mother sues a son for $100MM, the family is dysfunctional.

The lawsuit has nothing to do with family; that's business. She has every right to protect her legacy and hard work from being falsely represented and possibly destroyed by her son. Anyway, I highly doubt that she believed that she would get such a large and unreasonable amount from suing her son, who obviously doesn't have it because he works for her. Most likely that the lawsuit was her own way of teaching her son a lesson and showing him that she's still the boss.

And BTW, to the OP, he's not proud of going to jail; he's proud of surviving jail and being able to turn his life around, without returning to his old ways, which is extremely difficult for an ex-felon to achieve because most employers see that you have a criminal record and throw your application in the garbage. Most people are not willing to take the chance of hiring an ex-con, which is also why he's helping people who are in the same position that he would have also been in if not for his mother and the restaurant. Most people would find that admirable.

I woke up this way...
