Beyond horrible. I thought it was an Italian Irish cross

I'm glad his role is very small, the accent was awful. It seemed English was his second language.

Thomas Megan, the Bishop, was from Iowa. He took over after Vincent Lebbe was tortured to death by Chinese communists. Lebbe was a Belgian and had made an enemy of Zhou Enlai from the 1920'a onward.

Megan went around with Theodore White to see the famine first hand. There are reports that Megan worked with the OSS and was a rough and tumble kind of guy. He died in 1951 of a stroke. He was nothing like Robbin's role. He was said to have been made secretly a Lt Gen of military intelligence by Dai Li, head of Chinese Secret Service.

A lot about him seems to be hidden and maybe its on purpose by the US and Chinese. The Japanese had put a bounty on his head and he worked underground. The Japanese tortured the other priests to tell where he was but they didn't talk. Due to the Civil War between the Nationalists and Communists he couldn't return to the mission. It was badly battered and occupied by the Japanese anyway.

White came back to the US and published Thunder out of China in 1946. However, no good deed shall go unpunished. He was denounced by Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn and David Schine as some kind of "pinko" and Time Magazine's Henry Luce fired him.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else
