Ok so I may be an idiot here....well, I know I'm an idiot but anyway -- Someone explain the ending to me, did they get away in the helicopter or not?! I was confused.

shareI think we're supposed to believe that the first ending is the flash forward of the girl's thoughts as she thinks they've made it. She sees the helicopter and in a split second, everything works out in her head. The military guy shoots the last zombie, they both climb into the helicopter and get away. She counted her chickens before they hatched, so to speak. But then reality hit when the military guy's voice breaks through her thoughts, saying, "There's no more room." This is when she comes back to reality and her thoughts of escape are dashed. As the helicopter flies away, the roof door opens and the rest of the horde pile out. The girl makes one last pleading reach toward the copter as the zombies pile on to eat her face off.

The soldier who came out of the helicopter could have at least thrown her his weapon so she could have had some chance of defending herself. I think with this type of shock ending the scriptwriter was trying to emulate the finale of the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD eg.the hero being killed at the end.
I was wondering why he even bothered to land just to tell her they couldn't take them.No sense at all.
