Unbelievably fun!!

I'm hard pressed to enjoy Swedish movies - despite being born, raised and still living in Sweden.
But I was really looking forward to this movie, figuring it would be great, based only on having read the back of the book it's based on.

It did not disappoint!

It's like a very Swedish cross between 'Forrest Gump' and 'Snatch', with part low key verbal comedy, part over the top slapstick.
All elements perfectly mixed!

I LOVED it, and seeing as I normally don't even LIKE Swedish movies, that's really saying something.

I can only agree, great joyride from beginning to the end, plus the 100-year-old make-up was top notch stuff!

I think it wasn't very funny, tried too hard to be edgy and the makeup wasn't good. Didn't care too much about the plot either. Around 4/10.

Yes it is the best swedish movie since "Göta Kanal", my new favvo

reply

Yes, I enjoyed it as well even though I couldn't get past the first chapters of the book.

My wife and I adored this film. 'm not usually up for subtitles, but this was worth it.

It sort of made me think of Forrest Gump in Europe, but that's just my silly nature acting up. Fabulous film. Highly recommend it!

This movie was full of life, hope and solid good fun. I loved it. I don't compare one movie to another, or I try not to. Yes, there are the obvious "rip-off" flicks and remakes; however, I attempt rating each film on it's own merits. "100-Year Old Man" had me laughing out loud and that alone is a treat for me when watching a comedy. Whoops...I needed to add that I appreciated the black humor very much.

Other posters did reference Chauncey Gardener from the film Being There (I know, I know what I just wrote above) AND I have to agree. In my opinion, any resemblance to Forrest Gump makes me scratch my head. As one Swedish reviewer noted, there are parallels that exist in this film only because the main character is Swedish.
