worthwhile film will sadly fly under the radar

my only problem with this film is that too many bad things happen to these kids.

the film is a chain of "inevitable defeats" that happen again and again. very simple ones, like getting bullied, having a pet die, or being hungry, but in the context of their world (living in public/low rent housing with junkie whores as mothers) it's pretty devastating.

i'm sure the kid who plays the lead is thin in real life, but i was wondering if he got even skinnier for the movie. good lord.

great acting, familiar story, but the kids who play mister and pete are fantastic. it was really touching to see their relationship grow.

jennifer hudson did a pretty good job of playing a pathetic mom.

jordin sparks' accent was weird. kinda like...hollywood pop tart with an aftertaste of east coast thrown in. she was kind of a distraction. they could've chosen someone else to play that part.

overall...it's a must see.

This film might be one of the most overlooked films of 2013. Not only because of the cast but the title of the film as well. Most of the general public can't even say the word in the title, lol..

It slowed down considerably for me about 1/2 way through and I didn't want to stick around to see what happened to those abandoned kids. I just can't watch movies about endangered children.
But, Jennifer showed her acting chops!

I think so too. When I see all the rave reviews a film like "Precious" got I have to wonder why. In my opinion this is a much better film with a much better story. Kudos to the Director and the Producer.

I will have to add this to my favourites.

PRECIOUS was, in fact a good film---I liked it, anyway. Meanwhile, this film didn't even play anywhere near the D, which really sucked, because I was really looking forward to it. It really didn't get much promotion outside of the film festivals except for online---would love to catch it on DVD first chance I get.

"Precious" was an okay film but in my opinion if you liked "Precious" you should love this. I do have to wonder why it didn't get a lot of promotion also. I hope you get to see it though.

i agree with everything u said especially about jordin being miscast. she just didnt seem authentically from the city life.

reply

Yes, I enjoyed it much better than all the current Oscar nominations for best picture. It was so good! I was so glued to the screen that I hardly even noticed/ate the snacks lol

I didn't get the chance to see the film while it was on theaters. However I would agree that it wax a very sad film showing mister trying to survive without his mother.

This movie is indeed very touching. When mister started to beg the dealer for work and to get his friend out.. thats when I just cracked.. to imagine kids having to struggle like this.. Thats just horrible!!!

This movie is indeed a must see! I hope it gets the credit it deserves.

I'm nothing if not optimistic
