Why is a black kid hanging out with an Asian kid?

He's got a point. Blacks and Asians don't just hang out with each other, especially in NYC. It is an odd pairing but I'm willing to reserve judgment until I've seen the film. I'm also glad that an Asian actor is getting work in a non stereotypical role.

After watching the trailer, I couldn't help think that the Pete character was drawn Asian to acknowledge some heavy borrowing from "Nobody Knows".

its showing not only blacks are messed up, in the trailer the asian kids says my mom knows that man, and he is talking about a drug lord!

Spoiler Alert:

In the movie both Mister and Pete live in the same public housing complex and their mothers both work for the same drug dealer/pimp.
