What was the point of Jordin Sparks's character?

Was she there merely to showcase the protagonist's difficulty accepting help? Was she there to show a way out of the projects??? I don't understand how she really contributed to the story.

Well I walked out midway through, I don't like seeing children in danger. I picked up that she moved out of the projects by becoming a high class call girl. But I didn't stick around to see what happened.

did u not see the trailer.......

reply

Lol. They probably blindly went to see it at a film fest or something. Shame on them, the most movie had some amazing acting by both kids. Pretty good story too.

@mizright

That really didn't make any sense---you knew what the film was about before you saw it,right?

I gathered that she use to live in the building, she was suppose to be 16 only two years older than the lead male, she was a call girl living on her own,and I assume she just was a cool friend of Misters, who wanted to help him out every once in a while

The audience I saw the movie with groaned at the kiss between the two characters but now knowing she's 16 and he's 14, it wasnt so bad.

where did u get their ages from?? did they say in the film??

reply

Me too....she didn't seem to be 16 or 18 years old, Jordin's character seemed closer to 20.

reply

what i got out of her character was when it came down to the very end she was just one more person who he could not depend on...she was nice to the boys but had her own issues and when he needed her she was gone..just like no mother to help him, just like the store owner wouldnt help him with ice, just like the pimp wouldnt get involved when the store owner grabbed him...he was on his own aside from Pete..

reply

My thoughts exactly, his mom told him that no one is going to help him and she was right. She moved in with the guy in the end

P.S. Sparks looked so damn fine, made me want some wine.

The point was that blow jobs can get you out of the projects but only if you do it to the right men.

Lmao. That's true though.

Seems like It was a girl from the neighborhood that he had a crush on.

Personally hot the impression that Alice once lived in the same apartment mister did as a child and a success story.

reply

I thought it was only me who didn't get this characters inclusion in the plot at all. Pointless.

reply

Yeah, she went out of her way to go to Mister's house and check on him, then she completely flakes out when she finds out he's starving and has no electricity. What? That seems completely out of character - she didn't even buy him some groceries or check back on him?

I'm also wondering about the person who said she was 16 - I thought she was 19 or 20. Did I miss something? If she's 16, and the age of consent in NY is 17, how did her older lover leave his wife and have her move in?? I don't know. We didn't get enough information about her.

reply

The person who claimed she was 16 was just pulling it out of his ass.
She was driving a car, minimum age for a full driver's license in NY is 17 and more like 18 since 17 requires a bunch of driver's ed.

reply

What? You can get your DL at 16 in every state. You can do the prep work beforehand, to take your test on your 16th birthday.

That would be incorrect.

If you close your eyes while Jordin Sparks talks, you would believe that you were watching an animated Disney movie.
