A little disappointing to be honest

Ok, let me start this off by saying I love Tangled! I thought it was adorable and fun and sweet as heck, but this? I don't know, I mean if I just came across it as a dvd extra maybe I would have thought it was ok, I guess I just expected something a little more.

Flynn and Rapunzel only had about 5 lines each and I love Pascal and Maximus, but the slap stick was just sort of tedious and over the top....but then again that's kind of what slap stick is, maybe I'm just not a fan. It did look beautiful, no question there, I just expected a little better. Like the Toy Story short before Muppets! That was a great short, it had a complete story and let the characters shine.

This also just had a few too many callbacks that got on me nerves. Look! He threw the ax! Remember? Like in the movie? Wasn't that funny?

Anyway, I hope I don't make anyone too mad with this, I guess Disney has spoiled me and I expected a little more, but for what it was it was cute...just cute. I think it will entertain the young fans but some of the older ones may come out a little disappointed.

Well I'm an older fan and personally i LOVED it! As do most of the other fans I've spoken too. I don't care what anyone says, their kiss at the end was PERFECT! :)

Also I never laughed so hard during a short before. One of my favorite parts was giving the queen a one liner and watching the castle go up in a fiery explosion! XD

They packed more action in those six minutes than were in the actual film. Are you saying the older fans shouldn't be able to enjoy this? That they shouldn't be capable of it?

reply

Well, it is a SHORT. I also strongly advise people to not watch any released clips online (even if it's on Disney's youtube channel). I'm looking thru them now and am glad I didn't at all. Because it's a short, watching those little clips is like spoiling a good chunk of the mini-film.

And needless to say, it was over-the-top hilarious.

reply

Not at all dude, I'm sure tons of older fans will dig this, and as said I didn't hate it, I just didn't love it. I just thought maybe some fans might be disappointed.

The kiss was eight kinds of adorable, but like I said I'm not a huge slap stick fan so it might just come down to that. I'm happy that people liked it though, I just didn't as much as I thought I would.

im 25 and i was HYSTERICALLY laughing!! "the kingdom is ruined!" *Castle blows up* LOL

Lol, that part did make me chuckle.

Goodness, now I'm afraid I'm gonna get a bunch of replies from older fans telling me I'm a jerk. I didn't mean older fans wouldn't like it, I partially wrote this review trying to figure out why I didn't as much so that was one thought I had

reply

no i mean i read ur review before i went so i had low expectations! if ur hoping to have a bigger story its disappointing cuz u dont see alot of the main two but its just a short so thats not the point. maybe a real sequel one days but its unneeded. love tangled.

I'm 20 and a HUGE Disney nerd and I was way disappointed (leaving out the personal problems I had with the original movie e.g. her short brown hair that I think is ugly and the fact that I like the name Flynn better than Eugene). I think my main problem was the curb stomping some of the characters got. Maximus, to me, is one of the best Disney characters ever and was seriously my favorite part of the film Tangled, but here he was reduced to being one of the three Stooges. Where was the badassery we saw in the movie??? And the Stabbington brothers seriously would attend anything Flynn was a part of? Really? Come on. And yes, the slapstick was very tedious and after the first few bits I could really care less whether they got the rings or not. Plus I totally agree with you about the call backs. The whole thing felt like I was watching a DreamWorks production, instead of a Disney one.

I absolutely loved Tangled but this was completely unnecessary and I kind of wish they didn't do it at all.

First of all; There's nothing wrong to state a opinion, as long as you do in a relevant, constructive and elaborative manner. Which you certainly did. If someone gets mad on you for stating your opinion, then it's their problem.

Second: I absolutely agree with you. The short wasn't exactly horrendous. But to be honest, I didn't particularly enjoyed it either. It felt somewhat calculated and stressed. And the humor was extremely juvenile.

reply

Completely agree w/ you and the OP. Oh, and if you were wondering if I'm an "older fan", I'll be 17 in 3 months.

Thanks :)

And there's nothing wrong with liking Disney, no matter age or sex.

I was disappointed to be honest, but for a different reason. They made the queen talk. In Tangled, the king and queen had BEAUTIFUL animation, they didn't have to say a single word but everything they were feeling came across simply through animation. By giving the queen one line...it destroyed the whole short for me. There are somethings that should not happen and having the queen speak is one of them.

EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

reply

you'll notice the queen didn't ACTUALLY speak, it was an imagination spot.

I just watched it as an extra on the Cinderella BD. I don't normally like slapstick but I thought it was hilarious. I never saw Tangled so I don't know what the callbacks were.
