So Henry was a huge liar?

Instead of telling her she was in a coma, he tells her that she's dead. That completely changed the plot of the movie when we find out she's not dead.

Actually, that was one of the few points that I thought made some sense. I think the point is that when you realize you've lost something valuable, whether it's a spouse through divorce, a job, a home, a loved one, you look at things differently. You see lost opportunities, really weigh your decisions, have time to think about the good things and the regrets. It's like George Bailey in "It's A Wonderful Life" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038650/?ref_=nv_sr_2 when he realizes he really did have a great life and that he did make a difference in it. He wants it back, even if there are still some pretty bad things to face, because he realizes it's value. So, that aspect of the plot made sense to me. The same plot device was used in "Just Like Heaven," http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425123/?ref_=nv_sr_1 a romcom that I really love - only the guy thinks the lady is a ghost instead of an angel and then finds out she's still alive. If you want to see this plot twist done very well, you should check out either of those two movies. This one - eh. It's nice to have on in the background while I'm writing Christmas cards or wrapping packages or baking, but overall, they just miss the mark on believability.

If there was a concern that coma wouldn't get her to see the light so to speak than maybe she was a lost cause. I would have been okay if they brought her back so she was dead. So either Henry found out she was still alive or stretching things he was unaware.

Does Henry actually say Carrie is dead or does she assume she is?
