Who else feels Mark Wahlberg is a lousy actor?

Just my opinion but he's terrible. Not the worse, mind you, not by far, but really bad. He must have a great agent. Can anyone name a movie where he made it better because he was in it?

Mark is an 2-time Academy Award nominee, so he's proven that he's far from being a "lousy" actor in general...The only time he is ever "lousy" is when he's being directed by an arrogant, unscrupulous hack like Michael Doofus Bay.

As someone who loves the world of filmmaking, I understand that actors need to be led by good directors with meaningful guidance in order to perform well. Now that Bay has gotten undeserved power over the creative process of a film production, he never bothers to actually translate a screenplay to the big screen. All Bay does is quickly scan a script (failing to notice the meaningful/intelligent aspects the screenwriter put into the draft) and then he highlights the "important" aspects (in Bay's moronic perspective) to explain what the actors need to do in their roles.

Those so-called "important aspects" do not inspire the actors to perform to their full potential, because Bay is too much of an idiot to make his actors think the project is worth any hard work.

I actually like Walberg, it's the only reason I watched AOE in the first place, and although I wasn't expecting a lot, I wasn't disappointed when I didn't get a lot.
I think Walberg can hold his own. He was great in Pain and Gain, and also Lone Survivor, but under the direction of Bay and yet another Transformers movie, what did he have to work with?
A tired old franchise that are pumping out sequels in the hope of milking their investment for everything it's worth, and more.
We've seriously finished with Transformers, especially with Bay at the helm. His signature "slow-mo while stuff explodes all around" seems to be the only arrow in his quiver, and it's getting old!!

The only reason I found this post is because somebody is complaining about you on my post about how bad this movie is. He seems to think that you're forcing people to hate Bay and the Transformers. If people's entire mindset can be changed by one persons opinions, then what does it say for them?
That they are sheep with no thoughts of their own.
This movie sucked, as did the one before, and I expect the next one will too.

Indeed. It's hard to show your talents when in a movie like this. Even Grammer didn't shine, even though he was arguably one of the only 2 tolerable characters.

I am guessing much of the flat characterizations we get in these movies is a result of Bay, coupled with the awful dialogue.

I do think he is vastly over rated. But what is the worst thing about him is he chose to be in this crapfest. That shows he is tasteless, crass and money fixated

What are they doing? Why do they come here?
Some kind of instinct, memory, what they used to do.

Jonah Hill is a 2-time Oscar nominee. Alan Rickman and Kevin Bacon have none. An Oscar nomination is no indication of talent.

Since when an Oscar nomination or winning one makes someone a good actor ?
Nicolas Cage, Tommy Lee Jones and Halle Berry have Oscars. Are they good ? No !

He wasn't good in The Happening either. Movies like this and Happening isn't his genre.

Or when he's being directed by another Academy Award nominee. 😇

I do. The material he had to work with could hardly be described as great but he made the worst of it. The fact he had been nominated for prestigious acting awards is irrelevant. With a good script and the right director even poor actors can seem talented.

I liked the Italian job! entourage was great he didn't act in that but for 5 minutes in the first episode. But he did create it

reply

I don't dislike him at all, I find him to be a relatable person in anything he is in. In as far as performing a role is a job, he is a good actor. When the right things come together, like in The Godfather, legendary careers can be forged. People confuse the role with acting ability, like Han Solo in Star Wars.

Not so much lousy but he isn't all that great either.

When theres no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

I agree, he is not a very good actor, but I've seen things with him in it that were OK when he was doing what he is good at, which is kind of acting dumb. I liked "Sniper" I think it was and some other movies, one of two. It is his power and influence in Hollywood and making movies that bothers me.

I will say that the Planet of the Apes remake just stunk to high heaven.

reply

Thats funny. I had no interest in watching this, but I noticed he was in it and I will watch it on netflix now. I don't expect much from it, but I like Mark Wahlberg.

I don't think he's terrible. I'm consistently shocked with the memory that this is MARKY MARK. The only human being on the planet who makes justin bieber not look insane. MARKY MARK. The fact that he can speak and walk at the same time almost inspires a sense of awe.

I do have to admit it was kind of funny watching the texan farmer with the thick boston accent that kept leaking in.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

reply

As Marky Mark, that was his first acting job. He convinced people that he was a rapper. Thats acting. He is not a great actor, but he has IT. Whatever IT is.

He's just got the look, smile, voice, he is someone you just want to watch.

My answer:
Transformers: Age of Extinction

Adding Mark Wahlberg was the worst thing ever happened to the Transformers franchise.

I kind of like Marky Mark, he´s not a terrible actor, but he´s obviously no Michael Fassbender or Sean Penn either.

He has to be given the right material to shine, though. An Action/Thriller á la Lone Survivor/Shooter, comedy like Ted. He´s even solid in Dramas like The Fighter.

He sometimes *beep* up scenes like the "I´m an inventor" scene in this movie though. That was just terrible and cringe inducing. Or that infamous scene in The Happening. Both those movies however, have been directed by some very poor filmmakers.
