If you want to help support Borealis

Since you're on this board, you presumably already know what Borealis is. However, for those who might not:

Borealis is a sci-fi series set in the near future (2045 to be exact). It's a dystopian future, in which Actic permafrost has melted and various countries fight for Earth's last deposits of oil and gas there. All paths cross in a tiny mining town of Borealis, and more specifically in a bar/hotel run by Vic Carbonneau, an ex MMA fighter and a de facto owner of the town, played by Ty Olsson.

Some people compare it to Deadwood, some to Firefly; and it does have a bit of both. Deadwood in the sense of a gritty frontier gold rush town that lives by its own rules; Firefly in the sense of a very well thought through and consistent 'verse with incredible characters. (No space action, though. Earth based.)

It's very well written, intelligent, with good, strong characters (male and female). Great actors, every single one. Quick paced, with awesome action scenes (including a spectacular cagefight which took 7 hours to film). Thugs, shark-smiled diplomat (oh, Svetlana...), militant environmentalist, archeology mobsters. All the good stuff. Absolutely freaking brilliant.

Pilot was shot, but then the channel was acquired by a larger company and the show somehow fell through the cracks. Ty Olsson took on himself to promote the show through Twitter and Facebook and get at least the pilot aired.

It was aired last week, at four days' notice, with not a single promo aired beforehand. Still had the best ratings for the night.

So now, the goal is to try and have the series greenlighted.

If you want to help:

Further instructions pending...

Watch Borealis on YouTube (link below) as Space has already taken it down.

Write Space at [email protected]. They send back an automated "not slated for production" reply, but are counting the emails.

You may also write - tread lightly, mind you, and be very polite and constructive, those are people we don't want to irritate - Patricia DiVittorio, BellMedia Program Acquisitions at: [email protected] and Mr Kevin Crull, President, at [email protected]

Tweet @CTV_PR , @BellMediaPR and BellMedia president, @kevincrull (careful with the latter; be polite, constructive and don't spam, cos if we piss off the boss of all bosses - you get the idea.)

PLEASE DO NOT TWEET THE SPACE CHANNEL ANYMORE! They acknowledged our interest and asked for the carpet bombing to stop (also, blocked several people). Please send emails instead.

Use #Borealis hashtag. Especially required when tweeting @TyOlsson, who coordinates the whole thing.

Hey folks - just a quick update:

It would seem we are making an impression after all - Space Channel acknowledged our interest in Borealis and politely asked for the tweets to stop. Less politely, they blocked some of the more active tweeters.

So Ty's request is not to tweet them directly anymore, but continue with the hashtag - he has a very comprehensive report to prove the level of traffic we're generating, which can be printed out and presented to whoever the relevant person is.

Also added new email addresses to the OP. One for a lady from Program Acquisitions Dept - important, because they are the ones who make actual decisions - the other for Mr. Crull. Make sure to choose your words wisely (rational arguments trump squee any day) and do not spam these two! A lot - if not everything - depends on their good will.

Someone put up a copy on YouTube. Check it out before some Copyright Troll or Admin Nazi takes it down. Watch it, and if you like it, spread the word, and make your voices heard by contacting SPACE Channel.

While there's been no further word from Space Channel about sending it to series, I choose to look at the fact that they re-aired BOREALIS twice yesterday as a positive sign. Fan help is still needed.

If you haven't seen BOREALIS yet, it is up on YouTube (7600 views and growing): http://youtu.be/XVMvqNygFk4
A new review (complete with link to the movie) is up at SF Signal: http://bit.ly/17XJPV6
If you do the Torrent thing, standard & HD versions are out there.

Leave feedback, anywhere and everywhere you can (be polite!):
E-mail Space Channel at: [email protected] & [email protected]

With your voices, and a little luck, maybe the network will decide to pick BOREALIS up. Thank you!
