Borealis is an awesome series..

Anyone else seen it on the 'Space Channel'?

reply

Yes and in total agreement with your statement. Just finishing the last 15 right now.

reply

Sooo, whats it all about? It is similar to any other series?

reply

Borealis is set approximately 30 years in the future and focuses on a Deadwood-like frontier town situated in the high Arctic. The proposed follow-up series would ‘explore the political, environmental and social impact of a world in which the polar icecaps have melted and countries are vying for the last vestiges of oil in the Arctic.’

reply

That doesn't really tell me anything, and I think you copy-pasted it from somewhere else, 'cause I remember seeing the Deadwood-connection on the Wiki-site.

reply

what else do you want to know? that summary tells you as much as many other shows do usually. yea I copied and pasted, didn't clarify since it's not like plagiarizing a speech or anything.

reply

Because it's all just a bunch of fancy words to sell the series and not really an answer to my question. But thanks for not even trying.

reply

Is your question still what's it about? Because the answer's still the same and there's nothing fancy about it.

reply

Funny. The dude there is pissed that you copied and pasted while he couldn't even make the effort to do it himself. Or maybe even watch the show.

Douche

I come from a long line of proud Von-Mannschafts.

reply

The one who's not even trying is you! How about doing your own research? Ever hear of "Google"?

reply

Googwhatnow?

reply

It's a fight for territory, like Deadwood(compared to a real war), only governments are behind the fight. It was too light on SF content for me. Pretty much only how the accessed media and video-communications. A few other things, but they don't seem to affect the plot.

reply

Now there's an answear that I enjoyed. Thanks!

reply

Just finishing the last 15 right now.

The last 15 what?

reply

So is this a series or a one-off TV movie as suggested by its IMDb entry? Perhaps it was shown as a series of short episodes on Space? Or a pilot for a series that didn't eventuate?

reply

A pilot that, for who knows what reason, didn't get picked up.

It's decent, it really is. Taq (Patrick Gallagher) is the best straight-man sidekick. Not Shakespeare and not Deadwood (both are extremely high bars), but definitely worth watching.

Considering the reality shows and junk on tv, networks ought to spend a dollar if they expect to keep their audiences.

---------------------
Thanks, I found that out elsewhere in the meantime.

reply

Saw it, liked it more than I expected.
Two things stood out to me:

1) The MMA stuff is just pathetic pandering. If they make it a series, they should forget about that ridiculousness.

2) Bettina is crazy hot and the scene where she climbs into bed with the guy to help him get some sleep before the big MMA fight but then wouldn't screw him, instead making him listen to her thoughts and feelings had me laughing out loud. The writers are men, so I have to assume they wrote that scene that way on purpose.

reply

AFAIK all athletes have to abstain from sex for a few days before the event, for purely physiological reasons - muscle relaxation, testosterone levels etc. So the scene is not quite so unbelievable.

The girl is scared and knows the only guy who can (and will bother to) keep her safe might easily die tomorrow. Both know he can't screw her if he wants to survive the fight. So all they have left is some animal comfort of having another warm body close. She talks because she's scared. Many people just go blabbing when they are afraid.

The dialogue (monologue) could indeed have been better, though.

I saw it and I liked it. Too bad it has not been picked up....better than most other crap on TV.

reply

This is a common misconception- There is no evidence that sexual relations before an athletic event has any impact whatsoever on performance. Unless of course you don't get any sleep because of it.

She stayed with him becasue they are friends and they both needed the comfort knowing he might die the next day. There's nothing else to it.

reply

"common misconception" yes... but outside of Playas, Himbos and Man-Whores, a concept that a lot of athletes still hold on to

reply

It is also enforced - for example, during soccer championships, players are not allowed to meet their GFs for a day or two before the match and clubs/national teams are very strict about it.

However, I do agree it was mostly a friendship thing.

reply

Correct, the sex thing is a total myth. But lying in bed with blue balls because the hottest girl within a 1000 miles is draped across your chest with her hair so close to your face that you can't help but smell it will absolutely ruin your athletic ability.

reply

"Unless of course you don't get any sleep because of it" hahaha, story of my life :)

...& insomniacs complain... wut a wurld!

anyway, i'll check this show, just for the politic/anticipation side it seems 2 explore & its solid realistic premises.

i hope it's not some neo-nazi propaganda tho ;)

reply

I just saw this. Or at least its pilot. I enjoyed it.

"Now, would you prefer to be conscious or unconscious during the mating?"

reply

I downloaded it, but yes, this was fncking excellent. How on earth was this not picked up when it's so, so much better than 90% of all scripted shows currently on TV?

What the hell, network execs? Get on this.
