Did the Humans abandon their settlement or remain?

I watched it last night I was wondering at the end did the Apes take over the Human city of San Francisco. The humans seemed to have abandoned the city when Caesar released the imprisoned in order to challenge Koba. Now it looks like it has become an Ape colony. Where are all the Humans?

reply

The apes likely retreated back to the forest-remember Caesar was told there were more humans coming, soldiers, so the humans would have stayed and the apes would have left to try and do what they could to survive until the rest of the humans came. Like Caesar said, humans will not forgive. They're coming.

I thought most of the humans bugged out and went to other parts of the city, and that Caesar and his followers decided to stand their ground in downtown San Francisco.

Apes' food (wild game) is in the forest, there's no food for them in the city. They would go back to the forest, but probably keep scouts near the city.

Now here's a twist for the next movie. The 'soldiers' who responded to the radio signal
-could be human raiders. (think: Walking Dead - Woodbury) You really believe a military detachment that stayed with the 'defend the country' ethos years after civilization fell?
-could be soldier apes who have learned to work the radio and are coming to help their decimated brother apes. (Read up on 'War' so that's not going to happen)
-we didn't actually hear much other than broken words on the other end of the radio. As far as I am concerned, Dreyfus and Werner were just making it up that help was coming. The last radio transmission, Werner was still asking for identification and location.

Seems like #1 may be happening based on the Colonel's description in 'War'... this could be the San Fran humans and Caesar's clan teaming up to fight a human hornet nest that's coming to rape, pillage, and take the women for breeding and kill the males.

Good point.
