Why is Toni Collette in this movie?

I just don't understand why they would hire such a gifted actress, and give her two minutes of screen time and four or five lines. What a waste! 

Heyyyy, I didn't mean to cook your dog! But hey, those things just happen!

Totally agree, did she even have any lines apart from mumbling a few incoherent words from another room while McCarthy stomped about ?

Maybe she had a bigger role/more lines and they were cut, otherwise a total waste of a great actress.

I was never one to hold grudges. My father held grudges, I'll always hate him for that

she's been in other films like this. The film was not unlike Muriel's wedding, made when Toni Collette played the young lead. The film also reminded me of Little Miss Sunshine that she was in.

Hey why not she be in the film! And why have a massive ego and demand some certain sized role. Maybe she wanted the role, maybe she was friends with the films producers - should a film be written around its stars?

reply

She probably did it for kicks. Why not? She's probably friendly with the people who made it and decided to do a small part.

It's not really a 'waste'. She was probably only shooting for a couple of days. It would hardly prevent her from doing other projects.

Besides, she got credited above Sandra Oh, who had a more substantial part, so it's not like she was taken advantage of.

I thought that same thing.
