DVD commentary and 'The Velvet Rage'

First, I have to say "I Do" was one of the best movies I've seen all year. I haven't been this preoccupied with a film since I saw "Shelter" several years ago.

From the commentary, I learned it was an exhausting multi-year project to bring "I Do" to the screen. I hope the same crew will be back with more movies someday.

I was also intrigued, in the commentary, at the mention of Alan Downs's book, "The Velvet Rage." I'd heard of this book, but hadn't read it until I saw this film. Reading that book was an "A-Ha!" moment for me, as it made me understand a lot of things in life quite a bit better.

As for how the book influenced the movie - I saw the story as subtly portraying that the lead character, Jack, had a split life. He got love and sex in different places. As he dated Mano, he got a taste of an integrated life where everything came together. But Jack had to open up to the possibility first, after a little prodding from his friends.

Anyone else who's read "The Velvet Rage," seen "I Do," and has thoughts about the book and movie?
