A missed opportunity (spoilers)

I really loved the movie up until about the last 10 minutes. I just think it would have worked a lot better if he'd turned out to be just a voice in her head (it seemed to be going that way for a moment there), this "happy ending" thing seemed quite forced to me. Wonder if anyone agrees.

i was thinking exactly the same thing... my heart was already breaking thinking that that was going to be the outcome. I would've given it a higher ranking in case of that end , movies with an unhappy ending are more likely to stick with you. But anyway, still enjoyed it and i'll sleep a lot better tonight with the happy ending in mind :)

I'm thrilled he didn't turn out to be a voice in her head. That said, the last 10 minutes of the movie were a huge disappointment; the whole con/get away car/escape/jumping on a train thing was so ridiculous and the movie could have ended much better. Delightful film though.

When he drove from the cops, I hated it because now they have to live a life on the run and that, I imagine, is not the best beginning to a relationship.

I wish he would have taken a cab like the rental car woman wanted. Becky could have waited out for him until he arrived.

How is them not ending up together a cliche? A perfect ending like the one in the movie is more cliche than what I suggested.

Him being a voice in her head would've been a cliche IMO. I feel like we've seen that so many times, right up there with "it was all a dream". I wasn't crazy about the last 10 minutes either, but I definitely prefer the idea that they were both real people with an inexplicable telepathic connection.

Really any ending can be considered cliche at this point, but the idea of a big twist where everything you've seen up until that point wasn't what it seems or wasn't real has really been overdone in recent history. I think I would take the cliche happy ending over that.

I dont see the ending as necessarily a happy one. Dylan is now wanted for parole violation along with various felony counts for assault, larceny of motor vehicle, fleeing to elude arrest etc., and Becca is out a husband, a luxurious lifestyle, has no ID or her personal belongings, and they are both stranded in a freezing cold box car. I can think of
happier endings....

I joked about the voice in her head but I was thinking what if he was an fbi agent arrest her at end for something or something like that lol, but yeah the movie starts off with him in school and feeling her ski accident it wouldn't make any sense

they almost did that. for a few seconds at the train tracks, it seemed like that was going to happen. i'm very glad they didn't go that route. or have him get shot by the police at the last second. i would not have been happy about that, was too invested in it by then.

I agree that that might be a good idea for a twist ending, but not with the exposition as it was. Joss deliberately let both protagonists feed each other information that they clearly didn't have themselves (she advising him on how to succeed with a girl, he telling her about the specific sensor part in her S.U.V.), presumably specifically to prove to both of them (and to the viewer) that what's happening is not a schizophrenic episode and they are not fooling themselves.
