Moira Kelly as Darcy

Can anyone tell me something about her role in this movie? She played Mike's wife.

reply

It is a pretty small role and her few scenes (maybe 4 total) are all with the character Mike where she only has a couple of lines.

In her first scene (maybe 1-2 minutes long), I honestly didn't recognize her. I figured it out in her second scene. She looks older than I would've expected. But she did her scenes just fine.

Moira Kelly was just in minor supporting role as Mike's wife as Darcy. She was only in 8 scenes.
The 1st scene was encouraging Mike on the stress on being a special education teacher and assuring him that she loves him.
The 2nd scene was when she told Mike not to pursue the Space Camp project for his learning disabled kids and forbidding his husband to go against the principal by going directly to the school administration for her husband's Space Camp proposal.
The 3rd scene was basically her longest scene. She told how proud she was of her husband on how his Space Camp proposal for the learning disabled got approved and suggested to Mike on how to keep things simple for his special ed students while preparing for Space Camp. She once again told Mike to be optimistic as well due to having limited funds needed for Space Camp. Her line was memorable by just saying, "Genius is keeping complicated things simple" and telling him on how their sons are learning to be a capitalists while playing Monopoly. This is where Mike got the idea of using a board game for his students to learn the Space Camp curriculum.
The 4th scene was that she was part of the montage wherein she and her sons were raising funds together with the special education students needed for Space Camp. She has no lines spoken.
The 5th scene was wherein she was part of the Mike and Robynn's group of students that were outside Mike's house who are discussing about the moon and reviewing lessons for Space Camp. She has no lines spoken.
The 6th scene was encouraging Mike and helping him to be optimistic when there were only minimal funds raised needed - only $1,800 out of $50,000 required - and when Mike got more rejection letters for funds.
The 7th scene was when Mike called her in the middle of her sleep when the former was worried about how the students are going to perform in the pool test. She just him to remain optimistic.
The 8th scene was welcoming John back after Space Camp.No lines spoken. Then the end credits appeared.
Despite her limited role,it was a great TV movie. Besides,it was a John Corbett and Jessy Schram film. Not hers.

"A Smile As Big As The Moon" was released in 2012. If you want to see more of her, try seeing "Taken Back:Finding Haley" which was released the same year. She was great in that TV movie.

Moira should have been a Hollywood superstar being very pretty especially back in the 1990's and having great acting talent. She was already positioned to be a Hollywood superstar with movies like "The Cutting Edge", "Chaplin" and "With Honors". But she was a devout Catholic and Hollywood is in contrast on what she is all about. She is also not a fan of sex and violence of most Hollywood films. Now, she is just relegated to TV movies. And she just turned 50 this year.

Who needs Hollywood? Not Moira Kelly
