Count on Cronenberg to come up with something this weird

When I started watching the trailer and they showed blood samples being taken from celebrities and being distributed among fans, what I guessed it was going to be was fans wanted DNA from celebrities to somehow make a clone. Or maybe even alter their own DNA so they would become just like the celebrity they worship. Wouldn’t that be a nightmare? A whole generation of teenage girls turning into Justin Beiber? THAT’S a horror movie.

Nope, once again Cronenberg literally invents a fetish where as far as I know none existed before. People who want to be infected with the diseases the people they worship came down with. Man, I don’t even WANT to know if there are people like that in real life. Just as I don’t want to know if there are people who jerk off to car crashes.

Dear Patch,

This is a different Cronenberg than David.
It's his son.
Also --- Crash was a book 1st. And a great book by J.G. Ballard! The book is a lot different & a lot better than the film. Though Holly hunter was great.
Naked Lunch is also a book, the film was more or less based on William Burroughs life in Tangiers while writing parts of what would later become the Interzone series.
David's supposedly given up on making those early Cronenberg "flesh" films. Sad, very sad to people like me. But his son has taken up the torch. though i am a bit skeptical.
But trying to not link the two together & judge him seperately on his own merits.

I agree. I miss Cronenberg's body horror films. Lately I've been a little bored with his choices. The last thing I liked of his was Spider. But it is good to know that the (possibly infected ;) ) fruit doesn't fall far from the tree.

Completely agree.

LoL, also nice to be able to express an opinion without being attacked.
Thank you.

well, there's mechanophilia, an attraction to machines, which is close enough...
