Low Rating?

I thought that this film was extremely unique and interesting. You can clearly see the influences of his father. Maybe it's not for everyone, but I did enjoy it more on my second viewing so I would encourage people to give this another chance if you did not enjoy it the first time around.

It was unique, and I won't deny that it is interesting, either. At least, the premise is interesting. That is what made me want to watch it, after all. But I felt that it was executed quite poorly. Overall, it ended up feeling rather convoluted, and not in a good way. So I won't speak for everyone who did not like it, but perhaps that is a common reason. I know for myself, it definitely wasn't that the genre isn't for me, or that I thought it would suck before I watched it (both of which seem to be common sentiments around here towards those who dislike the movie).

It was beautifully shot but it got dull and long after while. It probably has a low rating b/c not many people made it through the whole thing.

I just turned if off. I was about 39 minutes into it and wasn't quite sure what to make of this movie. Very unique, but didn't quite hold my interest, so I came to this board to see what other people thought of this movie.

I was close to turning it off. But if I would have done that, I feel that I cannot give it honest rating. Once I finished it, I gave it a 5. Could have been a 6 if I cared for the main character.

If your title is really in the form of a question I'm guessing from your first line it must be rhetorical.

Aside: I enjoyed this film a lot and yeah, like father like son, but I think it had its own qualities too. David Cronenberg was always an outsider. I hope Brandon will be too in his own way.

I agree. The soundtrack was rich and modern, the blood looked real, the imagery and atmosphere were unique. I agree with others that it dragged or just didn't find a good conclusion, but I'm sure that he'll improve. I'm looking forward to more.

The movie is social commentary, a story told in such a way that forces one to actually think to enjoy it. These elements alone will result in a low score every time. In general, movies that force one to actually pay attention while shoveling in the popcorn don't do well with the general population.

Part of the problem may also be that at a glance in the video store Antiviral seems to be packaged as a horror film. While it is most assuredly a horror film, it's for those of us who don't need an axe-wielding homicidal maniac running amok to consider a film "horror."

Personally, I find the film's extrapolation of the effects of celebrity worship far more chilling than any slasher or zombie flick. Chucky can be stopped with a well placed kick, social horrors don't provide such an easy fix.

I quite liked it. Though id say it did lack a visual style, everything was just so bland.
