Why do people hate on this movie so much?

Why are people spewing so much vitriol against this movie and Dax Shepard on this board? Now, it's by no means the best movie ever, but it's not bad at all either. I thought it was a fun, entertaining action flick/road movie. It reminded me of True Romance - and not just because the bad guy was a white dude with dreads.

I don't get it either, this movie was a fun time. Seems like the really big blockbuster comedies like Bridesmaids and the Hangover, Wedding Crashers, etc don't ever really do it for me, but this one never bored me. It was kind of the comedy version of "Faster" in that they were both car chase movies that were pretty underrated.

reply

Well, it's not terrible but it's not very good either.

reply

You are right. It is fun.

Because "the haters" get eaten by their envy of (mostly?!) Dex...

But haters gonna hate... ;) It's hard for them to grant him all the success _and_ Kirsten... i can imagine

It reminded you of True Romance because it was a complete ripoff of the movie. You mentioned the dreads on the bad guy, but Cooper couldn't hold a candle to Gary Oldman's Drexl. Dax's character was supposed to be this "mysterious" guy with a past, but he even sucked at the one skill he was supposed to have, get-away driving. Drexl even called Christian Slater "Charlie Bronson" in their big scene. The old car, the motor lodge, the trip to LA, the visit with the father(Beau Bridges is no Dennis Hopper), the big shoot out. To me it was a horrible attempt by Sheppard to write an action movie for himself and his girlfriend.

You say ripoff, I say homage :) But yes lots of similarities, and no doubt TR is a waaaay better movie. I still thought this was a fun popcorn flick.

...then why are you confused about why people hate it? Seems like you know - it's like a horrendous remake of an already stellar movie by some hack who said 'hey, the only way I can work is if I make the movie myself and get my friends to be in it for free!'

I was bored to death by it (even as a popcorn chase movie it sucked), but to each their own. Enjoy my friend! Seems like other people liked it on these boards, so you're not alone...

I'm confused why people HATE it with so much passion. If people were just indifferent or had a mild dislike for it, that would be completely understandable to me.

I just found parts of it to be boring, and some of the lines are weak/lame, gives the actors a fake image. Overall, I don't think I disliked it because of the actors but because of the cheap lines and stuff. The parts with car "racing" seem ok, but the lines man, the lines!

Especially when that guy who wants to kill them is telling his gf "Yes mam" or something like that" and the part in the shop when he apologizes to that dude who was buying the dog food...just two I can remember, overall, it had cheap lines imho.

I enjoyed this whole movie. It was nothing spectacular, but a good solid movie. The only part I liked of True Romance was the Sicilian insult scene with Dennis Hopper and Chris Walken. That was a truly memorable scene, but the rest of the movie I found very flat.

People seem to think it's some kind of pro homosexuality/ anti redneck propaganda. Which I think is kind of ridiculous since the outright gay character was the least realistic, blatantly stereotypical of all the characters. Even the rednecks had some variety.

Many many people on this forum and many others have posted their opinion of this movie. If you read their opinions, then it is likely that you know why they have those opinions.......so why post a question which is answered in almost every "hater" post which you apparently read or you wouldn't be aware of the hate???

TLDR: Thread makes no sense.

reply

Agreed with first two posters, I don't understand the hatred for this movie.

I don't have a "hatred" for this movie at all! I bought the blu-ray, and I'm glad I did! However, I do feel parts of this film can get a little too "preachy". If I want a message, I'll go to church. That's all I'm saying.
