White people making monkey noises... racist?

Personally, I found it to be in very bad taste given the current climate in modern America. They could have picked any number of animals including farmyard or zoo animals, and... ahaha ok you got me, I'm kidding around.

My mind did go there for a brief second then quickly admonished it.

Racist against monkeys? Planet of the Apes finally happened and I didn't notice?

This is not my signature. This is IMDb's automatic translation of my signature.

You know, to be honest I did picture Riley to be black during the silly scenes and considered whether or not the monkey term would go over well with audiences. The honest answer is that it wouldn't. Its sad that something so innocent is seen as negative when it involves a black child, but thats because its been used as a derogatory term. Its just how it is.

What the heck is this thread about ?

You're not allowed to act as a monkey for fun ?!?!?

WHAT ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I'm light-skinned black and.........what?

The big moments are gonna come. You can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts.

Obviously had nothing to do with race....

Time for white people to reclaim our monkey heritage, no longer will the black man keep us down!

H.sapiens is a species of ape, not monkey. Those two superfamilies diverged at our last common ancestor ~25-30 million years ago.

Actually you're both wrong. Homo Sapiens and apes share a common ancestor. Humans did not evolve from either apes or monkeys. No scientist in the world believes that.

It's impossible, but I will do it--The Walk.

reply

We are a subset of apes-- Homo Sapiens are a branch of the Hominoidea family tree, alongside chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans. This is basic taxonomy. For all your bluster you don't appear to actually know what you're talking about.

I think you're confusing apes with gorillas. No scientist in the world believes humans are descended from GORILLAS. And we aren't. But APE refers to the overall family of primates that includes gorillas, chimpanzees, humans, and orangutans (I'm probably missing a few, but those are the main ones). So, since humans are a type of ape, and (at the moment, anyway) only humans give birth to other humans, we are indeed descended from apes.

It's racist towards saiyans

reply

*gasp* You're right. They do act like monkeys. Oh my god, I didn't even think about it when i saw it, but now that you mention it...Oh my goodness. How could disney and pixar be so racist as to claim we are monkeys? Why couldn't they include black people, asian people, hispanics, arabs, and jews to act like monekys too? Just to show that we are all monkeys, but noooo....It HAS to be the white man. Color me triggered. Where's my safe space?
